The Bose system in my 2010 Maxima absolutely destroys and puts to shame the one in the '16 Murano. Heck, the Bose system in a 2003 Audi A4 I once owned blows it away. That's not the Bose I know...

 

I think that Bose needs to be made aware that Nissan is killing their reputation!

They are also killing their own reputation on the Bose website...when you select the 2016 Murano, it literally says "Bose Premium system complete with 11 high performance speakers".

 

I just filed a lengthy complaint on Bose Auto web site. I mentioned that they needed to check out the forums so the they could see amount of complaints. Link below. Click on "Contact" on top far right on the web page. Everyone here should be filing out the form so that Bose can see that it's not just a few voices in the dark.

BIG FYI: I updated the Maps with the new 2018 Maps SD card, $129.00. When completed, I was resetting stations and such. I went into the sound setting and all that was there was Treble, Bass, Balance, & Fade. Gone were the Bose surround options, even when listening to HD radio, which the Bose options are supposed to be for, according to the Nav manual. I will be taking a trip to the dealer over this issue so that there is a formal complaint backed by the dealer.

The audio is so bad now, when the DJ talks, they sound like they're in a big hollow chamber. It sounds really horrible and I just have to turn it way down.

Yep, filed a complaint on Bose website and they have already emailed me back to begin a process.

 

I too wanted to document on this forum my displeasure with the Bose Audio in my 2017 Murano platinum. The sound is awful compared to EVERY other car I've sat in. The Ford I drive at work which has the basic audio system sounds much much better. The sound is richer and better distributed. Plus it has way more options regarding tuning the sound to your preference. The audio system is easily the biggest disappointment with the car. I wish I had tested it more thoroughly when doing the test drive. I just assumed a premium audio system would be..... a premium audio system and just trusted it wouldn't sound like a cheap knock off.

 

It will be interesting to hear if there's a defect in some system component. Please keep us updated about the resolution.

I've had one car (Audi) with a Bose system and it lacked highs. Pretty typical for Bose, so I ended up replacing the whole system. I don't insist on high end sound at all, usually happy with the stock stereo in cars, but that one just wasn't good. Bose has fans and detractors - I learned that I'm not a fan.

 

Has anyone tried changing the source (head unit)?

I am guessing that Bose is using the same amp+speakers combo with other car manufacturers, I doubt they made the system just for Nissan. Maybe it is the output sound from head unit (made by Nissan) the weakest link.

It is the weakest link. They've taken all the end user tone adjustments out of the radio. The really sad thing is it's a programmable interface. And yes, Ford, GM, Toyota, & others with Bose are complaining. It seems to have started around late 2012 and is just getting worse with the complaints in the other forums also.


I would expect if I bought a 20k car to have to upgrade the audio system, not at the price level for a Murano Platinum loaded. Also, with the camera system using the audio interface, it's almost impossible to change these head units without losing some kind of function or other.

That’s very interesting that you are seeing it on those other forums. Like I said, I will be absolutely relentless. This cannot continue to pass as a premium sound system until they fix the problem.

 

One thing Nissan wanted me to do was listen to another 3rd gen murano. Listened to my next door neighbor’s 2017 w/Bose and it was at the same level of terrible.

Hi Assad, you may be right about the head unit. FM radio sounds fine. It’s CD/Bluetooth/USB where the overall sound quality is severely degraded. I have not listened to Sirius b/c I have not connected it yet. My beef with Sirius is a whole other story...their sound quality blows too. Maybe the head unit programming for those mediums was jacked up by the engineers who tuned it. I’m still losing my mind over here. Waiting on some sort of sound testing CD from Bose to arrive in the mail.

 

SXM sound quality stinks also. Too loud and the DJ sounds like he has his head in a steel drum. Reminds me of my uncle's 59 Chrysler that had a speaker in the back with a "reverb" knob on the dash. Used to drive my brother and I crazy when he'd crank the reverb all the way up!


If you've seen my other posts, you know that I was sent the incorrect SD card for my radio and now I have only basic audio control. I was told Friday morning when I called that they'd be sending the correct one overnight, after contacting Nissan first, and I'd get a call back with tracking info.


Well, no call back and no delivery yesterday. And of course their support has banker's hours. They had me remove the SD card and read the number that you practically need a microscope to see.


So yesterday afternoon I had to go out. I got in the car and inserted the SD card. I then spent about 10 minutes cleaning the back seat and just messing around. My grandson and I got into the car to leave. Started the car and NO RADIO, nada, nothing on the driver dash except shift indicator P. Shut the car off several times and tried ACC mode without the engine running, nothing.


Because we were pressed for time, I had to drive 45 miles with just speed and shift showing on the dash and nothing on the radio. When we arrived I pulled the fuse panel cover and pulled fuse 20, for the radio, fuse was good so I put it back in. Took me a bit to get it back in with my big fingers in that tight space.


Started the car and everything seemed back to normal. Radio, Nav, Dash working, still missing the Bose audio controls. So I turned off the radio to speak to my grandson who was outside the car. While talking to him I happened to press on the brake pedal. All of a sudden I'm hearing this extremely loud clicking from firewall area behind the radio. If you've ever heard a older AC motor relay clicking as the motor winds up, that's what it sound like. My grandson was able to hear the sound standing outside the open driver's window. Happens every time the brake pedal is pressed. With the radio on, no volume there's no clicking. I have a funny feeling that Nissan is going to be replacing a radio real soon.


Have to go look at houses today with the wifey so I'll see if any issues pop up today.

No problems with the car today. Everything seems normal except for the heavy relay click when applying the brakes with the radio off now.


The house is for me. I own two houses already, but since my back injury, I've been unable to walk up and down any of their stairs without a great deal of pain, so I'm looking for a single level now.

When you talk about 'basic audio control', what exactly does that mean? I have the 2016 Murano w/Bose, and the extent of my audio controls are Bass, Treble, Fader, Balance, and Speed Sensitive Vol Control. Am I supposed to have more audio controls/equalizer options?

So, Bose sent me a demonstration CD. I believe those are intended to highlight what the sound system can do. Played it in the Murano and then played in the vehicle I drive on a daily basis, a 2010 Maxima w/9-speaker Bose system, and like everything else, the sound quality in the Maxima was leagues beyond that of the Murano. This is my 5th vehicle with a factory installed Bose system and the Murano is the absolute weakest system between the five vehicles. I don't believe it's supposed to work like that. I reported back to Bose and await their reply.

Sorry, just started driving a Murano so late to the party on this thread.

Had no issues with the audio in my 2013 Maxima but the 2016 Murano seems light years behind. Even my wife commented on the the sound, or lack there of which she never does. Is the issue with the speakers or just the amp?

 

It's in the head unit. They dumbed down the tone controls.
