Alternator/charging issues

Hi everyone, im new here. My girlfriend has a 2007 murano S with around 110k miles. A few weeks ago she was about to leave work when she started the car and went to drive away. She noticed it felt underpowered and at times it wouldnt accelerate like it wasnt in gear. She would then attempt to start it, sometimes it would crank, other times it wouldnt. I ended up picking up the car with my truck and trailering it back to my house where its sat for about 3 weeks. I did some research here on the forum and found about the alternator issues where it goes in limp mode. The battery light and brake light were both on on the dash, which thanks to the forum, told me the alternator wasnt charging. So I watched some yt vids and figured out how to do it myself. So i took the old one out and took it to a local guy to get it rebuilt. Ive taken him the alternator in my truck twice in the past 6 years to get rebuilt, as well as other alternators from a few of my other cars. But i eventually got it back and he tested it and showed it was working. I got home and installed it, filled up the coolant, and started up the car. No issues, battery light was off, and idled nicely. After a few minutes of idling i hooked up my obd2 reader to see the voltage. It was at 13.4 and seemed fine. Suddenly the engine seemed to quiet slightly and i went inside and the battery light was now on. Voltage from the obd2 showed 12 volts on the dot now. So my question now is, could there be something causing the alternators to poop the bed, or do you think i just got a dud rebuild. Should i just ask the guy to give me my money back and buy one from the auto parts store, or should i give him a chance at redemption? If i go the route of just buying a new one, what brands do yall recommend? I did all the work myself originally replacing it. Im no master mechanic, but I wanna have some advice from the yall who know these cars inside and out before i begin the laboring task of installing either a new alternator or letting him rebuild it again and installing. Thank you for the advice in advance.

It's not unusual for the rebuilt alternator to fail, it's a very common issue with rebuilt alternators. If all the connections are good, including ground connections, it's likely you need to try another rebuild of the alternator. Also, if the battery has experienced lots of corrosion in the past, the battery cable(s) may have internal corrosion... Also have the battery load tested to be sure good, especially after being run down due to the failing alternator, this stresses lead acid batteries.

Yeah, definitely check the condition of the ground cable from the battery terminal all the way to where it terminates on the transmission. Also, there are a bunch of high-current fuses attached to the battery positive terminal (...called the fusible link)--make sure all those fuses are intact.

UPDATE. Took my rebuilt alternator out and took it to orielys, failed 3 times. Took it to my rebuild guy he opened it up. Rotor was trashed. He asked what I wanted to do and I told him my gf just wanted a new alternator at this point. He said he'd help me out and order me a new one from his supplier at his cost. All I had to do was pay the difference of the new alternator minus what I initially paid for the rebuild, so 30 bucks extra. 115 bucks for a brand new alternator basically. So I got that installed it got the car running and no issues. I idled it for about an hour in my driveway while monitoring voltage no issues. After that hour pass I decided to take it for a drive. Drive went great no issues at all. I get home and go to open my gate to put the car away so I shut off the vehicle to go and open it. When I come back to the car I start it up and I have check engine light on. I start it up anyways with no issues. I read the code and I'm getting P0603. Not too sure what that code means. I went ahead and cleared it and I'm going to drive the car for a few days and see if it comes back. When my buddy came over to help me install the alternator originally, he asked me to spray some WD-40 on the O2 sensor so he could remove it to get some room to work on the alternator. He ended up not removing it because it was pretty stuck on there but we did spray WD-40 all over it. Could that be the cause maybe the WD-40 on the O2 sensor? Could he have busted something on the 02 sensor when trying to loosen it? Could I have put the serpentine belt on too tight? When I had
the alternator out I degreased the engine, could that be the issue? Or I asked my dad and he said maybe the computer just needs to relearn because the battery was unhooked for so long. Any advice would be appreciated. Alternator wise no issues voltage was great lowest I saw it get was I think low 13s or high 12s if I remember correctly. That was with Max AC and fan and the radio up. No battery light or brake light anymore.

You mentioned you cleared the P0603 error code. If it doesn't return, it may be a leftover error code from the bad rebuilt alternator issue, you should be okay going forward.

Little update. Got a brand new alternator installed and the car has been running great. But now when the car is shifting it's quite jerky. I topped off the CVT fluid but I'm going to check it again right now. It has a flashing airbag light on. Already tried clearing it but it comes back.
