Blind Zone Mirrors

I noticed that Nissan now offers mirrors with a sectioned off convex area for blind spot viewing for $125. Is this just a change to the mirror glass? I have blind spot detection so I don't want to change our the entire assembly; but just changing out the glass would let me see my blind spot and get the flashing warning as well. That would be nice.

The one problem I had with my new car was that it was delivered with a scratch on the backside of the mirror that caused a kaleidoscope effect and all they did to fix it was replace the glass. So if the glass fits its should be an easy upgrade.

I'm wondering if they are heated; might be able to just order the mirror glass itself as a service part. The ones I have now have a wire going to them and I suspect these are merely midgrade mirrors for people without the tech package.

little warning

I've got those convex-corner heated mirrors installed on my SV finally. From the second try...
Something weird happened when I ordered them first time and got them installed at a dealership. Reflection in the mirror was so distorted that made me dizzy right away! I returned to the dealership and asked to put back original ones. Installation and parts cost were refunded no issue. Those mirrors were not heated as well.
Second try was more successful! I've got heated mirrors at the same price. Installed them and they work really great! Love'em!
i'm not sure if first time it was an installation issue or a factory problem. just check them out before the installation.
NOTE. objects should be quite remote, like at least 100 m, to notice that distortion.
Good luck!

I buy the $2 stick-on mirrors the size of my thumbnail and mount them on the mirror.

And I don't change lanes - either direction - without looking over my shoulder.

Personally I think they're ugly too and wouldn't put them on my car. But then again I don't switch lanes without turning my head to look. I don't trust the BSM system and its a force of habit that I've been doing so long I just do it without thinking. Too many people rely on the technology of these vehicles to make up for their poor driving and parking skills;)

I can't see any universe in which adding a quarter-size stick-on mirror to an external rear view mirror changes or interferes with the "styling." That's a rather strange observation, especially since no one but the driver will ever even see them.

But I value my fenders and safety more than I value the visual difference of adding a small stick-on to my RV mirror.

However, if you're of opposite mind, please note how the styling of my 280ZX is TOTALLY compromised and destroyed by the fact that I have stick-on convex mirrors added to the exterior RV mirrors. It's absolutely appalling!!!

And it's even WORSE from this angle, where the hugely disfiguring add-on mirror is CLEARLY visible for miles around...

The fact that you know its appalling and still do it appalls me. :D

But clearly it just destroys the car's style, and we should live with the Murano's blind spots so people don't think we're committing a horrendous fashion faux pas.

But there is an acceptable alternative, the Nissan blind spot mirror. One that was designed for the car. But seriously, this should have came with the vehicle, instead Nissan choose to let drivers rely on the a high tech solution instead of a simple fix.
Your definition of acceptable differs from mine. $125 is not acceptable for a solution that I can get for $5 at Autozone that works just as well (actually better, since the convex mirrors I bought are adjustable without having to adjust the entire side view mirror), and look no worse than the factory ones.

I'm not sure what you're trying to infer by saying "designed for the car." Most convex add-ons are designed for almost every car. I can't imagine a car that these wouldn't fit on.

Look at the third post, there are pictures of the Nissan option (made for the car), its part of the mirror and doesn't stick out. If this had been available when I bought the car I would have chosen it and not thought twice about the extra cost because I was adding things on at that time anyway. What I originally asked and no one has answered is this optional glass made for the heated side mirrors? That makes them worth the extra $$$ to me, your stick on option will not defrost with the rest of the mirror.

You two need to go discuss this over a beer! Oh wait, craft beer? Miller Lite? Awe, let's just forget that idea! :)

Take care!

Does this help?

Nissan USA eStore

Part number is 999L1G20H0.

It says "Factory Installed", but if the factory installed one breaks, they need to be able to replace it. I'm sure your Dealer's Parts Department can order it for you.

Oh, BTW, regarding the Bose center speaker cover. Just order a new one for 2015 Murano WITHOUT the Premium Package. I checked and it is a different part number. Just make sure you choose the correct interior color. It's something like $41.

Take care!

Jim

Perfect. They are on order and hopefully will be here before the first frost! :15:
As for the center channel base level grill, I'll need to check the base level system and see if there is actually a speaker there. It could be an actual cover that looks like a grill, although I'm pretty sure Nissan doesn't do that.

Mirror glass is pretty easy to switch. Definitely a DIY job. They pop right off with a angled plastic trim tool and then just unplug the heater wire.

Take care!

I really like the improvements in external mirrors in the past decade or two. Convex passenger mirrors with heaters are common now, and they really do help.

Provided the driver:

1) Uses them, and;

2) Always turns his/her head and checks the blind spot REGARDLESS of what they see in the mirror.

I learned that in a state patrol driving school - you always have blind spots on both sides, regardless of how good your mirrors are. I constantly remind myself to always physically check either side before changing lanes. It's the one time you don't check that some moron will be driving positioned precisely in the one place where you have a blind spot.

I have them now and they are great. Had dew on the mirrors this morning and they heated up nice and quick, even cleared of the blind side portion. They are also perfect for seeing in my blind and look fantastic. Thanks Red Kiosk for pointing me in the right direction!

I bought a new 2015 Murano yesterday and it has built in blind spot mirrors. Not mentioned anywhere in the owner's manual. When I have the side view mirrors correctly adjusted to see cars behind me, the blind spot mirrors are off by a mile, and do not appear to be adjustable. I have stick ons that I can use, but then I'll have two on there. I totally loved the stick ons that I had on the two vehicles I traded in. Anyone have the built in BS mirrors and know how I can correct this? So far that's my biggest complaint, I have some smaller ones that I can live with. Thank you!

...Anyone have the built in BS mirrors...
For many years I used little round convex mirrors on my cars but never found them useful. Images were too far or too small to try to figure out what they were, especially at night, or when it was raining. So now I just adjust my mirrors in such a way that they show the lane next to me. I no longer see my own car in the mirror, and that took a bit of getting used to, but between my mirrors and peripheral vision there are absolutely no more blind spots. Now I call those little mirrors BS mirrors too, but not for Blind Spot... :)

I just had the dealer install the blind spot mirrors for us. Even with the Blind Spot Warning System, I still want to see if there is any people or cyclist in my blind spot which the BSWS won't tell. Plus, with the blind spot mirrors, you can get a good sense of your surrounding at day light driving (It is not very useful at night though). However, the OEM convex blind spot mirrors are on the small side and could not be adjusted. In addition, they are not on the same panel as the regular mirrors (does not look good and difficult to clean). To get the blind spot mirrors at their good positions, your regular mirrors will be off their optimal positions. In term of functionality, it is not as good as the $5 add on that I bought for my Odyssey.

The side-view mirrors are not intended for seeing what's BEHIND you...the REAR-view mirror serves that purpose. The purpose of the SIDE-view mirror is to see what is beside you. If you adjust your mirrors correctly, you can greatly reduce any blind spots. In some vehicles, you may not be able to eliminate all blind spots, but you can certainly minimize them.

Read this article:
How To: Adjust Your Mirrors to Avoid Blind Spots
You want to adjust your mirrors so you have the results shown in Figures 1, 3 and 4 of the graphic that is posted in this article. If you are seeing what's shown in Figures 2 and 5, you should consider readjusting your mirrors.

The only sure way to check blind spots is to turn your head and look. this is true on both the driver's and passenger's sides. State patrol training pounded that into my head in a week-long training course.

If you're driving and keeping track of each car around you, then immediately after you pass a vehicle you have a pretty safe idea of whether you can change lanes in front of them. But I've had a vehicle appear out of nowhere on my RR fender by quietly merging off a hidden access ramp and driving precisely in my blind spot (idiot.) If I hadn't turned and looked, I would have nailed them.
