Crashed my MO

Well my MO is No MO! Crashed it about 2 weeks ago and insurance is considering it a total loss. Payout sucks but hey, it's a 10 year old vehicle with over 220,000 kms on it so I wasn't expecting much anyway.

So I'm gonna go to the shop tomorrow to remove my plates, swap the wheels and look for things I can scavenge from it. Anyone have any ideas what I can rip off the car? If there's anything anyone needs I'll try to get it discreetly.

[Edit] Some pics... rear is banged up a bit too but didn't bother posting a pic

Thanks dude. Yea slippery roads. I was fine driving for 3 hours in deep snow from up north. When I got back to the city the highway was nice and plowed but unfortunately a couple of the wheels hit slush and the rear stepped out on me. I was going under the limit and had winter tires on to boot.

Here's the dashcam... think you'll have a chuckle at the audio.

Unfortunately, it was a single vehicle accident so it's still considered 100% my fault :( According to the insurance act in my province, weather and road conditions are not considered excusable reasons even if it's something you can't see like black ice.
Thankfully I have claim forgiveness so my premium won't increase. But looks like I'm stuck with my current insurer for the forseeable future.

Maybe the severity of the crash dosnt show in the video but it dosnt look like you were going that fast and hit that hard. That completely took out the Murano for good? I swear i have been in bigger benders in my Festiva and that came out still running. :/

Love the dash cam, id like to look into getting one. If you had the black interior, id wish i could get my hands on it.

Insurance companys............ pure evil. Insurance = the new taxes i tell ya.

Looks like you did a full 360 plus a few degrees - I heard both the front and back end hit. Slush is such treacherous stuff - when it grabs you and packs the tires, traction just disappears. Glad you're OK and there was no one tailgating you!

Dashcam? Wow.

Further proof than I'm an analog guy living in a digital world.
Me, too. Yesterday I said to my wife "Y'know, people go on and on about all these gadgets and add-ons in their cars, but I just think it's great to have a really good heater that works."

NOT that I turn my nose up at the LCD dash panel, power seats or other features in cars today! I just try to keep perspective.

I remember well when heaters were an option in pickup trucks...and seat belts didn't exist. GM made it a new feature when they changed their stock seat belts to color-matching instead of black in 1980.

It wasn't too hard an impact. I was driving slow and the collision was more of a swipe-while-spinning so there wasn't too much energy transferred directly to the cabin. The car appears to be repairable but insurance decided to total it due to the market value of Muranos in my area. This is actually a good thing for me as I'd prefer to get a different car rather than pay a deductible to have it fixed.

Pilgrim, you're correct, I did a full 360 and then another 180 before I came to rest facing backwards.

I got the dash cam because I had an incident a year or two ago on the motorcycle where a guy hit me with his car and nearly caused me to crash. It was intended to protect myself from an incident. But instead of catching other idiots I have only myself on camera lol, ironic. It's a great little device though. It turns on and off with the car and has a rear view camera as well. Bought it for about $50 on Deal Extreme.

Me too! But I like gadgets so I added a dashcam to my car as well. In fact I think I have the exact same one as kobayashi maru. Mine captures views from the front and back of the car and it only costs $50. It is awesome for recording idiots, and keeps me in line too >:D
What is the Make / Model of your cameras? Thinking about getting one as well..

Thanks!

Thanks carguy. You're correct about how it happened. Left tires on slush; right tires on clear, wet pavement. Car starts to rotate left or counter-clockwise. I correct but by that time the slush is getting really thick on the left side and the slight bit of over-correction results in clockwise rotation. Both rear tires are now in slush and it's impossible to recover without doing a full spin.

As for the slush on the road, I saw it but I was not concerned. I could see that the left side of the lane ahead got progressively slushier (it's a merging lane) but it didn't seem bad where I was--certainly no worse than up north where I had driven from.
There was a guy near my blind spot so I was waiting for an opportunity to merge in, I just didn't get the chance. I could've handled this differently by slowing wayyy down, wait for him to pass and then merge in behind. But if you saw the traffic conditions at the time I doubt anyone here would've actually done that.

You're absolutely right that winter tires and AWD can only handle so much and we shouldn't be over confident. I'm generally not, I just didn't expect this to happen the way it did.

As for the cars passing by, I think you're seeing the cars in the collector lanes on the other side of the barrier I struck. There was only one car in my vicinity and he slowed to a crawl. He actually stopped to ask if we were ok. The camera doesn't precisely capture the driver's experience from an awareness point of view.

Do you guys want to see a motorcycle crash too? lol

Hindsight is always 20/20, so it is easy for me to say how to avoid the accident after seeing the results, however I did not know about the driver in your right blind-spot, so yes that changes things a lot.

I am glad someone stopped to check on you, that means there are still caring drivers on the road.

Not meant to sound sarcastic, but just about every vehicle I have seen crash or lose control of while driving in the winter, were every time, people driving in the passing lane and going a bit too fast.

Passing lane is Always in worse condition, and tends to have build ups of deep slush or more water, since most are not passing in the winter, and tend to go a bit more slower and stay in the right hand lane.

Glad you are okay.....sucks about your accident!

That's usually true. Or in the case of heavy snowfalls there is no lane differentiation at all just a really, really big shoulder on each side of the highway lol.
In my case I wasn't in the passing lane but in one of two exit lanes which needed to be traversed to exit the express.
