Greetings. My 2007 SE has what appears to be an extremely low exhaust system. I believe this is the factory assembly and not something that has been done to the vehicle. I've noticed this on other Muranos also. It is a bit unsightly when viewed from a side view.
Couple of comments--1..I'm leery about travelling on any type of off road travels, even a level grain field, concerned that the exhaust system will be damaged. Has anyone had any problem like that?
2--Does anyone know if this low exhaust system was corrected in newer generations?
Thanks for any comments or info. Cheers.

The low-hanging exhaust has been a complaint from back in day-one. It does not fit the MO and looks like an afterthought.

I think when the MO was first approved for production the powers-to-be gave the production engineers the green light to use the concept show car as their prototype. They copied every detail, ordered the parts, scheduled production, and were all set to go when some junior knucklehead in the back of the room reminded them that since there was no exhaust system on the concept car none was ordered for the production version. So they scrambled and cobbled together an exhaust from the existing parts bin and hung it under the MO. I figure that must be how it happened because there is no way Nissan purposely designed such an ugly system for such a beautiful car as the 2003 MO.

Thanks njjoe and zebelkhan, appreciate the input--njjoe you really have it bang on! zebelkhan, not sure what nerf bars are but will google it and find out--sounds like one way of camoflauging it. I dont do any off roading but sometimes have poor roads to go over enroute and at my cottage--one of the reasons we got Mo.
Was this problem cleared up in the next generation? Cheers./Bill

My 2007 is stock and the exhaust system doesn't bother me at all. I didn't buy a Corvette, I bought a crossover SUV. And Zebelkhan is right on target - this is a road vehicle, not a truck or off-road vehicle.

I agree fully that it isn't an off road vehicle and I dont plan on using it as such. Thanks for the comments though. Cheers.

You can remove the center muffler and put something that is lower profile in its place. Maybe an aeroturbine, resinator will fit. On my to do list.

Thanks Warhammer, another solution. I may look into the nerf bar addition also. Cheers.

Se2007,

Here's a pix of what the nerf bars would look like. It's does hide the muffler pretty well.

There are certainly options such as the nerf (step) bars, or having a custom muffler or exhaust system installed. Question is how much you want to spend on a purely visual concern that no one but you will notice.

I will say,I never noticed the middle muffler hung low till it was mentioned here.
