Five day old 2015 Murano S, random electronic issues; anyone else?

Never owned a Nissan before; Dec. 23 I bought a Pacific Sunset Murano with AWD, no navigation system, no options that didn't come standard. Being a simple person who was driving a vehicle with manual crank roll down windows and a stick shift (by choice), this step up has been quite a lot to digest. The first time I drove the new Murano after getting it home, I could not scroll through the menu in Settings. It would not scroll down from the top of the list. It was frozen on that choice. Next time I drove it, that appeared to correct itself. This morning I remote started it. When I got in, the visual display for the climate control was blank. Mode, fan speed, temperature....none of it was visible. I could change fan speed but not see how many "bars" it was on. I could change mode, but could not see if it was top vents, bottom vents, defroster, etc. I could rotate the temp knob but not see what number temp I was setting it to. The only thing I knew to do was shut the car off and restart it. I had a 30 mile drive ahead of me and it was cold outside. That fixed that. Things like these are reasons I always wanted a vehicle with no, or very little, electronics in it. Do any of you see these issues? I'm not sure whether to let the dealer know or not. What can they do since it is fixed upon restart? I don't know if I will ever learn, or even use, half of the gadgets on this vehicle, but this was the S model, the one with the fewest gadgets, so I would have had to buy a different vehicle to get less technology, and I've wanted a Murano since the first one in 2003 (I think) came out. The 2015 is super stylish, too. I just hope these electronics glitches aren't a sign of a real problem.

Suggestion when it occurs if not able to reproduce every time is phone video/time lapse video to easily be able to show the dealership what is happening...ie remote start from inside the car showing interior clock in each sequence, along with a handheld thermometer in each sequence(if temp isn't climbing after 5-10 min)...stopping and coming back...then when you hit the brake and start button the instruments not working as well...

That's what I would do anyways as explaining and them possibly never seeing those issues before are now explained in a 30-90 sec video.

Good luck and keep us posted please.

My suggestion would be if your satisfied that your doing thing per the manual. IF things still going not like you think they should I would take it to the dealer while it is doing things wrong. My adage to this is if it aint broken they cant fix it. They may be able to get some codes from the box however it they can see the problem they may know right away what is happening. I had to do that a couple of times myself. good luck.

Oh and the HVAC settings not being displayed? That was during driving. I had already started the car after remote start and was moving. So that's not the reason. Luckily I have not seen that particular issue again, the settings issue keeps happening though. Now if I can figure out why it takes 30 minutes to get any warm air in there................

JHillyerd, I don't have a NAV screen. I bought the S base model.

I drive any new car home from the dealership and immediately take the manual in the house and read it through, at least the major points to get me able to fix the settings and drive the car properly. If I run across something odd, I get the manual back out again to see if I'm doing something wrong. I even have an electronic copy saved on my work computer so I can read it during lunch at work if I need to figure something out. In this case, I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm positive now, and it happened again yesterday while I was driving home. Would not scroll down past the top item in Settings menu. Three strikes and it's out and I go to the dealership. So it gets one more time to do this and I'll know for sure, it's not something I'm doing.

Please stick around and let us know how this turns out. We could use more people who know how to read. :)

suspiciously sounds like you didn't "start up" the car after remote start because the symptoms you described are exactly what happens when you try to change climate control settings before "starting up" after you get in the car after remote start. See if you can replicate it. If you can, you have a problem. If you can't, you just tried to control settings without starting up the car again after remote start.

Yes I did. That is what you have to do to drive it, per the owner's manual that I read. After that, I tried to set it and it was not displayed. I had to shut the car down and start it all over again from a dead engine while inside the car. I don't use forums to get help if the vehicle performs per the owner's manual. When things don't work as the manual states, THEN I will put it out there for others to see. It would be stupid for me to post this issue if I had not even bothered to open the book.

My compliments! That puts you ahead of a lot of people who come here and post - without doing any homework at all.

It really does sound like all the systems are not coming up to operating mode. I suspect a dealer code reading is going to be needed.

Did you remote start, then press the brakes again and push to start again? Remote start just starts the engine and sets climate control based on outside temp. To gain control and actually drive, you have to push brake and push the start button again. I mean perhaps glancing at the quick reference guide might help instead of complaining about things that are supposed to work like that.

The days of little to no electronics are gone. No longer an option, so we all move on and work with the new reality. Electronics are EVERYTHING to managing and running this vehicle.

I've sold cars, so my perspective may be a bit different on this. My suggestion:

- Take careful notes about anything that doesn't perform properly. Documentation helps with diagnosis.
- Get it to the dealer to correct any faults - this is a pretty normal process, and many cars take at least one visit to get straightened out.

I suspect that these could be the result of some fairly mundane problem like a bad ground or a loose or dirty battery cable. I'd wiggle the battery cables firmly to make sure they're solid (wash hands afterwards before touching other stuff...).

Electrical problems are vexing, but the good news is that the Murano is a pretty solid vehicle and you should be able to get it sorted out with dealer help.
