Headlight Adjustment (Halogen)

1st post. Thank you for some great info on this site! My question is this: I just purchased an '05 Murano S. The headlights were a bit weak and out of adjustment to my liking. I installed a pair of Silverstar Ultras and adjusted the light housings upward. I now have a nice bright/white light and can see great straight ahead. The problem is my lateral lighting. The two lights are aimed toward a point in the center of my field of view and I get very little light on the sides. I know how to adjust the up and down of the housings, but I can't figure out how to adjust for side to side. I did a search here and on google and can find info only for HID. Can anyone please point me (and my lights) in the right direction?

Welcome to the forum!

Not to state the obvious, but be very careful when adjusting the headlights. The driver-side headlight is suppose to be aimed slightly down and to the right to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Aiming the lights above the horizontal plane and straight ahead may improve your sightline but it is both dangerous and illegal.

I have attached a diagram showing the location of the adjusting screws and the aiming guidelines. I hope it helps.

njjoe, Thank you for the quick reply. The adjuster shown in the diagrams is the one I used to tweak the vertical alignment. I don't see anything in the diagrams or on my MO for horizontal adjustment. Could it be that there is no adjustment provisions for horizontal? Also, I was careful to adjust the vertical within specs so as not to blind anyone, they were really low.

I may be way off base on this one, but it looks like the screw may adjust both the horizontal and verticle aim of the light.

On each lamp housing the adjusting screw is located on the upper part of the housing on the inboard side. If the fixed (hinged) point of the lamp assembly is opposite of the screw on the lower, outboard side then the axis of the light would move diagonally when the adjusting screw is turned.

That is just a WAG, but it is plausible. Hopefully one of the other members will weigh in and let me know if I am full of hot air. :8:

If you really want to improve your headlights I suggest you consider the HID upgrade. Several members have gotten their hands on OEM lamp housings from eBay and salvage yards. It is not a difficult project and I understand the results are like night and day. Well, almost. ;)

The general consensus of this forum is to avoid using so-called HID kits in the MO's reflector-type housing. The resulting light output often produces unwanted glare that is dangerous to oncoming traffic.

Just my two-cents...
