high pitch noise in cabin

I get a high pitched ringing noise when i have the fan for my heat on full blast. It used to only happen intermittently, it would happen and then stop. I brought it to the dealer when it was under warranty to listen for it but it didn't happen for them when they had the car. Now EVERY time I put my heat on high, i get this annoying high pitched sound and have to turn it down. So I cant use the automatic climate control because it puts the fan on high. So I put it on climate control and then just click the fan down one notch and the sound goes away. I now have 39k miles on the Mo and am out of warranty.

Any ideas what it is??

Pull out the cabin air filter, make sure it's clean, then make sure it goes back in properly. When I changed mine the new one went in a little crooked and it caused a whistle until I fixed it.

good idea. now that I think of it, the issue didn't start until i replaced it the first time (oops!). Its actually due now so i'll swap it out and see how things go.

GREAT idea, JayS!!

It's something associated with the fan - and a plugged filter (they're almost never changed due to owner ignorance or neglect) could be causing restriction.

I only hear that kind of whining after a fast run up a twisty 20-mile Colorado mountain canyon. But I listen, as it tends to lead to barfing sounds later...

Start by just removing it completely and seeing if the noise goes away. If it does you know that's it and it's just a matter of getting the filter in there right or possibly trying a different brand.
