hows the power of the 528 for the 5 series?? i've driven a 99 540i with 6 speed and that thing is a monster. it's rediculously fast. anyways, the previous truck is now gone. the murano's new little brother is the MINI MO; the mazda 3 sport. it's an 07 galaxy grey hatch with all options for canada. what a little blasty blast of a car. i love having a manual transmission again. i find myself looking for the clutch now when i'm driving the murano. will get pictures as soon as school lets up a bit.
You should take a spin in an E60 M5. A colleague of mine recently picked one up and it makes the 4L V8s in the lesser cars feel like lawnmower engines. There is just no end to the power, idle to redline it just pulls and pulls. Of course, it's been back in the shop twice in the last month... but whatcha expect for a 100 large. Nissanlove the 2.8 is a really great motor.
Of course it is a BMW so that means a straight six with the attendant smoothness. Yes, it is smoother than the vaunted VQ engine. Straights are smoother than Vs.
It also has a flat torque response all the way up and gathers RPMs as fast as any engine I have ever driven. You really have to shift quickly if you are going to do a full bore run. 1st gear is over very quickly and you don't stay in 2nd gear very long!
They tell me it will propel the Z3 to 140MPH.
Probably true but a bit too fast for me in a smallish roadster........
I have done 120 and that was fast enuf. I will have to admit it was rock solid......but noisy!
At 190 hP and a tad over 200 lbs of torque it takes the Z off the line pretty well.
Of course these cars are so much more than just acceleration, but it will do 0-60 in about 6.7 seconds.
Yes it will walk the MO all the way up.
So, yes, the 2.8 is a fun motor. Lively and very responsive.
And BTW I get about 28MPG on average.
I would think it would be nicely matched to the 528..... as a luxury car. I would think the 5 series could use a little more than the 2.8 off the line, but after that it should be just fine.

I am glad you are happy Homer. Nothing beats stright six if it comes to smoothness and torque....
Talk about the “what others drive”….Just recently noticed lack of a yellow Corvette driven by one of our VP’s……..hm…I thought……and asked her as I saw a BMW 650i parked in the same spot. Yup, she upgraded! Next day I notice absence of a Porsche Cayenne at a usual reserve spot. Instead there was MB E62 AMG……hm……what the h……is happening? I asked the VP and he confirmed (with a smile on his face) he upgraded! I guess I can only dream…….

The power with the manual is not bad. I stayed away from the 540 for two reasons, gas prices but mostly it would get me into trouble.nissanlove said:
Plus the 528i is in my opinion (and others) better handling rack and pinion vs. recircling ball for 540. The 528i is better balanced. Not just brute force.
Practicable vs. MO hmmm depends, just me driving in heavy traffic at high New England speeds in rush hour traffic getting 28 MPG? May lean towards the Bimmer.
N2muranos when i grow up i want to be just like you , love that FX , how can it get any better an MO and an Fx , love it .
by the way the FX is my wife's dream ( mine too ), but just bought her a Honda Pilot ( love it too ) with four kids and all , will have to wait for the oldest one to move about before getting the wify the FX so i got four years to save up .
