Update on HID install in 2005 Murano

Update on HID install in 2005 Murano

OK. I wan to say that the HID install works for 2005 Nurano. I was able to install ebay purchased Factory HID's in my 05. The install was completed using the instructions and pictures as illustrated above, including the removal and replacement of the grill assembly.

Some observations:

It is quite difficult to remove the grill. Be sure to tape up the top front of the bumper to protect the finish, even more important when working the huge light assemblies into the holes. It is a very tight fit.

The factory manual says to take OFF the front bumper to allow the assembly into the hole. It is not required, but be prepared to work pretty hard on getting the lights in a tight space, and one of the 4 screws that secure the light is quite hard to reach.

The headlight aiming component on the housing (manual and with the motor for electrically adjusting the vertical aim) seems to interfere with the body work on install. I was able to disconnect it and then install the headlight, and then plug the adjuster in.

The wiring as described for the relay and fuse for correct high beam operation worked beautifully. I was able to mount the relay and the grounding wire to the screws that secure the air cleaner box. They are nicely located on drivers side firewall/fender and provide nice short runs for all wiring. I protected all wiring with plastic tubing.

The lights are incredibly white and bright, a real improvement over the halogens. I will attach a picture later today showing the driver side with HID and the passenger side with halogen.

Only one problem: The lights are aimed way too low. I tried to adjust them up, using the white plastic screw manual adjuster. The adjuster allows me to bring the lights up a little, but not enough. The shop manual shows the aiming procedure, and it says the horizontal cutoff point of the low beams projected on all wall at 30 feet should be the approximately the same height (32" or so on my Murano) as the center of the headlight, measured from the ground. As it stands, my lights seem to be about 8-10" too low using this procedure. This makes it a little scary to drive as you can real good but only out a few yards. High beams help, but will surely blind oncoming drivers. I suspect the adjusters are not operating correctly, and plan to pull them and see if I can look inside. The way it works is the screw turns a rod, which turns a little rectangular cube of plastic, which seems to fit into a rectangular hole in the metal adjustable part of the housing (which holds the lens/bulb assembly). Any suggestions appreciated.

Will post some pics later today.

Ah yes, the promised pics. I have one. It shows a head on shot with the new HID on the right and the original halogen on the left. This is the only pic that came out. I'm afraid it does not really show the white hot brightness of the new light compared to the halogen. Be assured the light is considerably brighter.

I still need some help in getting the new HID's aimed properly, as mentioned above.

That's it for now. I recommend the upgrade. It works on an 05 Murano exactly as indicated in the original posters instructions, to whom I am indebted.

Larry,

It is obvious to me.

Thanx for the pics.

Larry,

It may be possible that the bulbs are not seating right in the light housing. I found it difficult to remove and replace the HID bulbs and have them line up properly back in housing. Then again, that could just be me.

Hope that helps.

Guys, I was able to do the upgrade too. The instructions helped a lot. Took me and a friend approx 4 hours from start to finish. Although he helped me do most of the work. The credit goes to him actually. Thanks.

One thing I noticed that the headlights are much easier to take out and slide them in if you take out the black rectabgular Clip attached to the bumper just in the front(under the light).

My HID's are not aimed properly I am gonna need some help there. Any advice?

Plus, if needed, where can I buy the HID bulbs at the best prices? and where can I also buy the metal retaining spring that holds the bulb(part number 2602985F00)?

Besides, I would like to install the aiming switch. Are there any instructions for it for parts, how to do it etc?

ANd, my lights did not come with the plastic cap(that covers the back of the bulb). Is that normal or is it just me?

lilazndemon, I do not have a part number handy. If you want to buy OEM from the dealer just ask them and they can help you. If you want to buy them off eBay, just make sure they are HID Xenon and not halogen and make sure they come with the ballast, wiring and bulb if possible. Mine (used) have worked without problem since installation well over a year ago. Hope this helps.

Re: Is this complete So I can make the conversion?

Will I be able to do the conversion if I buy this kit? Is this all I need as far as the light assembly is concern?

Xenon HID kit Nissan Murano
nipsirc, the answer is NO if you want to do an OEM conversion using Murano factory components. This eBay link is for an HID bulb that will simply plug into your existing housing as well as a relay to fire it up. Your housings are reflector type, and do not have the projectors that Nissan developed for this model. What you see may not even be legal in some places because the light will be dispersed much differently and could impair the oncoming vision of other vehicles.

My suggestion, do it right or do not do it at all.:2:

Thank you very much for your reply.

Since you are in Toronto just like me (I'm in Brampton), I was wondering if I can engage your services to do this?

Also was wondering did you replaced your seats with leather or you just cover them up with leather-like seat covers? How much did it costs? Mine is cloth right now and possibly want to move up to black leather.

Much thanks

Wish I could help but I run a business and I am swamped with work which has me way behind on many things as it is. Follow the instructions, they are straight forward, or print the instructions and pay a garage to do it for you (should be no more than 3-4 hours labour).

I replaced my entire interior with a full leather Katzkin aftermarket kit I bought on eBay for under $500. Visit www.katzkin.com for details. It cost me another $500 to have a knowledgeable Katzkin upholstery shop near Keele and Eglinton change it for me.

Modify the new HID assemblies so your high beams will work!

There is a much easier way!!! simply put a 1a diode between the high and low beam relay. Put diode on pin 85 on low beam relay with white strip closest to the high beam relay and connected it to the Nbr 86 pin on high beam relay…. Now you have light on both high and low beam and the flash to pass works!

If someone would tell me how to post JPG photos I would attach detailed photos of my work. There is no browse button?

Yes I have been running the HIDs for over a month... with no issues what-so-ever.

I have also connected the aiming motors to a factory switch. There are no wires provided in the harness between the IPDM and the headlight assembly for the aiming motors. So I connected the red wire on the aiming motor to the marker light wires… for power. I then connected the back wire on the motor to the common ground wire used by the turn signal bulbs, marker bulbs, and the HID bulbs. The yellow wire on the motor connects to the green wire that connects to the aiming switch. (The switch that mounts inside the car) What I did was to cut the green wire right where it plugs into the aiming switch and use a but connecter to attach the stub wire to length of wire long enough to penetrate the firewall and reach the left head light aiming motor. You will then need to splice in a second wire so you can jump across and connect the right aiming motor. Wired like this you will be able to raise or lower the cutoff anytime you have the parking light on or the HID own.

I have also added H7 projector fogs and wired them using the supplied harness... I did not purchase an after market harness. I cut the wires and connected them to my projector fogs... In order to control the on / off of the fogs I connected a wire to the existing relay already mounted in the ICBM and ran a second wire through the firewall. This wire I connected to a switch that opens and closes the ground that activated the fog relay. Once again I have been running this setup for over a month without issue.

Dale,

Sound like a great setup. I would love to see some pics of the install.
