Other Wax brands?

I have searched back this thread 75 days only to see Zaino postings.
Has anyone used any other wax/polish brands that they can report results.
Mcguires Gold ect.? I'm shocked that many brands no longer appear in the stores. A few years back there were dozens and now I see about three. Mothers, Mcguires and the old standbys like Turtle wax. Anyone have anything to report other than the Zaino postings. Looks like you guys are sold on Zaino but I'm just sniffing for opinions before my first wax job.
Thanks Bob1

Thanks mgthe3, that is good info.

I suppose it is taking me so long because I just realized... I'm doing one part, and watching it haze, removing it and moving onto the next part. It's a new toy, so I'm taking my time... going slow, making sure i'm leaving no extra wax anywhere.

Hey, this SUV is so dam tall that I had to put a stool in the garage for me to reach the top part of it. : )

I can't wait for sun either now... rain for the entire weekend.

Grip... I'm sorry, I just realized there is a 2nd page to this thread and you go on there to explain how the product finished up... so you can ignore my last thread.

Hey gymkid, I'm afraid Grip will be ignoring all our posts as he has bid us farewell. Guess you missed this thread: :(

I did a search back over the last year but could not find any mention of:

3M Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax

Although I have been using it for a few years now, as far as the MO is concerned from May of last year to just before winter I waxed it with this 3M product at least 3, possibly 4 times.

It gives a great shine, is easy to apply and comes off easily leaving virtually no dust. Typically I apply it to the entire vehicle and don't wipe it off until at least 1 hour after finished the application to ensure it has totally dried.

It also seems to last and last! As of this spring, water would still bead on the paint despite the typicallatrocious Canadian winter conditions which in this neck of the woods means lots of salt.

So if you are looking for an easy on- easy off long lasting wax, perhaps give this a try.

I use Crystal-Glo. It's supposed to be a polish and not a wax. Completely non-abbrasive. It supposed to contains the same stuff as the clear coat so it's supposed to build on it. My neighbor got me on the stuff. He swears by it and judging by the shine on his black Maxima it looks pretty good. No swirl marks on his car.

This stuff seems to be very similiar to Nu-Finish, the once a year polish. Not sure what the reviews are for that product.

I also use the Crystal-Glo car wash. It's supposed to have some of that clear coat compound in it. The interesting thing about this wash is it doesn't sud up like other soaps. It kind of goes on and sheets off....hard to describe.

I also tried their leather/vinyl/plastic protectant. Makes the interior smell all new!

This sounds funny, but the best smelling product I've ever used is the Meguire's Endurance tire cleaner. It smells like berries or something fruity, and makes a nice shine on your tire. Lasts for a couple weeks and not days like the spray on stuff.

The Crystal-Glo website is www.crystal-glo.com. If you're in Canada they sell it, or can order it for you, at Home Hardware.

Polish is not a wax and generally does not have the same protective coat as a wax. My understanding is that a polish is to enhance the lustre of the paint and the wax is to protect it.

I had a bottle of Meguiars Gold Class polish and it specifically said on the bottle that you must wax after you polish or the paint will not be protected. I admit though I have seen other waxes call themselves "polishes" but on the bottle it clearly says it will add a "layer of protection."

That's what I thought too about waxes and polishes. I'm not sure what to make of this stuff though. Here's an excerpt from their webpage:

"Superior to wax. Formerly known as "Acrylic Car Polish," CRYSTAL-GLO® Paint Treatment is a unique acrylic formula that leaves your car looking as though it were sheathed in glass. Generates a deeper, richer, smoother shine and wraps it in a long lasting protective acrylic shield that is weatherproof and scratch-resistant. Unique acrylic revitalizing abilities. Eliminates oxidation, chalking, and accumulated wax. Restores colour intensity, revives "dead" paint. Fills in and hides minor scratches and abrasions, maximizing colour richness. Creates a non-stick surface that allows bird droppings, fuel spills, grease, grimes, and even tar to be wiped off, easily."

My neighbor uses this in lieu of wax. I'll email the manufacturer for some more info.

Sounds like one of those waxes that call themselves a polish to make people think they shine up better.

Unfortunately I just started using it so I can't fully comment on it's performance. The Mo is only 9 months old so it's still got that new car shine :). My neighbor's 3-year old black Maxima looks pretty good though!

I did some searches and I came across this article. It talks about different products and in there it describes a bit on Crystal-Glo. It looks to be a polish and wax substitute. It's supposed to have won a few awards. The link to the article is:

Ownging a Black color Murano....

ERIC l: I had a bottle of Meguiars Gold Class polish and it specifically said on the bottle that you must wax after you polish or the paint will not be protected. I admit though I have seen other waxes call themselves "polishes" but on the bottle it clearly says it will add a "layer of protection."
I uses both the meguiars gold class polish and wax product.
By polishing, it really makes the black color of Murano shines, reflect light at every angle kindda thing. Just like after you polished your black dress shoes. It sure looks nicer.

It is also true that polishing will never replace the protection of waxing.

The bad thing about polishing is: it will take you twice as long to polish + wax instead of just wax. Your entire arm will feel sore after doing both for 2-3 hrs :4:

I just gave our new '04 SL AWD it's first official wax job last weekend and I went with Meguires NXT Generation polymer blended wax. It was about $15/bottle and went on like a dream. I don't think it had much "micro polish" value for filling in scratches, etc. but it worked so well that anywhere my body touched the car my sweat beaded up immediately (as a side note it was 92 degrees out....yes I was in the shade for those that are worried about the temp, and I was shirtless and sweating like a @#$@ in the heat hand waxing the Mo). It hasn't rained yet (go figure, I couldn't wax the Mo for the first 3 months we owned it because it wouldn't STOP raining on my off days), so I'm still waiting to see the full effect. I could not find anything that wasn't McGuires or Mother's at the local auto parts stores so I went with the only "polymer" wax I could find. Here are a couple pics of the finished Mo!

Mother your car

For the past 15 years I've only used and always will use Mothers polishes waxes and cleaners. My old next door neighbor is their chemist and I was used as a test vehicle for years and I swear by the stuff. I've tried many others and they just don't hold a candle to their products!

Mother's mag and aluminum polish was the best I ever used. It was quick and left a very fine polish. I had some slotted aluminum wheels once I purchased from a used wheel guy and used Mother's to polish them--they were horribly stained. I used a bonnet on a drill and they came out perfect in very short order. I also had a dually crewcab that had diamond plate running boards that were looooooong, and nasty from the previous owner. I used Mother's once again to polish every inch, by hand this time. My wife did one side and I the other....was perfect.

Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish is what has those rims so nice and shiny....although it's been pointed out that they may be chrome and not aluminum (they were dealer-installed aftermarkets that were on the Mo when we test drove it and they left them on as part of the purchase), which means I shouldn't be using the Mother's on them as it specifys not to use on chrome/painted/anodized. To bad, it was a dream to use and the results were great.

It's a Zaino knock off.
Sal has been building and selling polymer sealant for many, many years.
Ever since the first polymer paint jobs as a matter of fact.

If it works, and you are happy with it, then I would just keep using it.

Re: Satin Glow

Originally posted by UncaDanno Goes on easy. Shines up real easy and nice. It's a decent bug & tar remover. I have also noticed that, with the Satin Glow on, bugs come off easier. Even love bugs.
How do you end up with Herbie The Love Bug stuck to your car?

#71 ·
Not Herbie.

The love bugs that you encounter in Florida. They eat decaying citrus so their bodies are just packed full of acid. In central FL, around Lake Wales, you wash your ride at least every couple of days so the love bug guts don't eat into the paint.

It is not easy to wash the little critters off once they have dried.

I waxed the MO with Satin Gloss and drove through FL a couple of weeks later. The bugs, even the dried ones, were easy to wash away.

I guess since this old thread got bumped, I'll go ahead and respond... if you haven't figured out already, Mothers makes a great Chrome Polish, that is a breeze to use. It's also excellent for cleaning glass (just don't use it on window tint film).

I've tried lots, this was my favorite before Zaino. As Homer has said in many threads, carnuba does not last long. Some mix the carnuba with silicone and other stuff. The carnuba dissipates quickly, it's the other stuff they put in that doesn't. And I can a test to that having used this pure carnuba. Smells wonderful, like opening a can of candy, you just want to dive in and start eating. Makes me want to plant some carnuba trees. But in about 2 weeks in alabama sun and carnuba is gone. And be careful getting carnuba on black plastic/rubber trim, it will leave a white haze that is tough to get off without something like Back To Black. Which is really weird, carnuba sure doesn't stick to the car finish as long as it does the plastic. One good thing about carnuba though, you sure get your exercise :D.

But all in all, Zaino typically lasts me about 3 months, doesn't foul up the black plastic trim and is the easiest to apply and take off of any I have tried, just wipe on and wipe off. I agree Homer, Sal needs to remove the word buff. With Zaino, there is no such thing. Once a year clay bar, wash every week or two, and Z2 every few months.

Hi guys. I'm a noobie to this site but not a noob to car detailing and I thought I'd offer some feedback.

A couple members have mentioned Klasse AIO which is a great product. But(and it's a big one), Klasse AIO is more of a prep for wax/protector. It's really good at cleaning water spots, goo and other stuff and it does offer a little protection but you'll get even better results if you follow up with a good wax/sealer. Klasse makes a wax to go over AIO but it's really hard to use...tough to buff off. I like using a product called Fourstar Ultimate Paint Protection. It's a polymer wax. It lasts much longer than most carnaubas, offers great protection, easy to apply and super easy to remove. You can have a great produt but if it's hard to use, you won't use it as much as you should. I've tried many different products and I like this the most. Some carnaubas will give a little wetter look or more gloss but you're applying them every few weeks and most are a pain to buff off. the UPP just comes right off as long as you don't apply it too heavily.
It's about $25 for a regular sized bottle(16oz) and you can find it at online detailing sites.
I'm sure there are products that are better in some ways but this stuff is just a great all around wax.

It's especially nice on lighter cars. Silver and lighter candy colors. I have a blue WRX and it really makes the paint "pop", for lack of a better word. It makes it look more candy. I just used the stuff on my wife's Sunset Red MO and it had a similar effect. Really makes the color stand out more.
