Hello All,
First I want to say thanks for all the great information on this site as it has proved tremendously valuable in figuring out the issue I have had with my 2003 Murano SL 2WD.

I had been dealing with a p0304 code for a while and did all the normal stuff like changed the coil pack and the spark plug with all helped mask the issue at hand. Last Nov(2014)I had changed all the spark plugs and filter after the code came back again. Though this time the car smelled like it was running really rich and was idling like crap and throwing smoke in the morning.

After the spark plug change and filter change there was still smoke in the morning and idling a bit rough but not enough for me to think too much of it. I ran some cleaners through the tank and it seemed to start to go away. The code went away and the car was driving fine. Over the last month the code came back and and it seemed like a bit more smoke was coming out.

After trying hard to figure this one out, ruling things out like the spark plugs, coil packs, injectors, etc. Hooked it up to a scanner (elm327 and Android Cargauge pro) look at all the sensor readings etc to try to help me find my issue... nothing. Finally I went to a local mechanic and the diagnosis was a stick valve or a burned valve. Either way expensive. Well I got home and just kept reading and reading. Tons of posts, manual and more.

I started to retrace my steps since I have been working on the Murano and got back to the Intake manifold to make sure it was torqued to spec. When I got to nut number for I noticed that one of the hoses basically was coming off by itself. So I pulled the hose of to inspect it and the back side was torn. As a quick fix I cut off the bad part and popped it back on, turn on the car and it started smoking, but then started to go away. As did the rich smell of gas. The car started idling better so I took it for a good drive and no code.
Over the past few days I have been driving it I get no code and the car has been running great again.

This hose goes to the Power Valve on the side of the Intake Manifold. I don't know why specifically it was only giving me a misfire on number 4 but it was. I just wanted share this long story with everyone because I have read so many posts that people are mind boggled by these misfire codes. I don't know if this will help anyone else figure out misfire issue(s) but in the end this was my problem.

Attached is a picture of the Power Valve and the hose that gets connected to it.

P.S. I did check most of the lines and other stuff for leaks. I think if I had a leak down tester I would have gotten this one much quicker.

Good Luck.

Thanks, I'm going to check this tomorrow in the daylight to see if this is my issue.

I recently purchased an '04 Murano with 220k. The CEL was on for P0430. It seemed to drive alright, so I let it go for the time being. I had the battery unplugged while fixing the driver's seat frame, and when I put it all back together, the CEL was off and stayed off for about a week. During that time, it ran better than it was.

This weekend I started it up, I felt a shudder in the idle and as soon I started to drive, there was hesitation and the CEL started flashing. It eventually stayed lit after that. When it was shuddering and running rough, it smelled rich.

After driving for a bit (as I reluctantly had to, or else I would have been stranded), it seemed to run a bit better and the idle levelled out.

Considering this problem went away after the battery was disconnected, and doesn't seem to be so serious that it happens all the time, I'm wondering what this could actually be.

I'm also wondering why P0304 is such a common code to come up. What's with cylinder 4?? After Googling, I see the same thing over and over, and can't help but wonder why. Strange co-incidence if that's all it is.

Anyway, the P0430 also came up, but I think that only happened because of the P0340 code. Probably threw off the o2 sensor when it was running rich.

Weather was lousy today, hopefully I can get to this tomorrow. Just to confirm, which is the #4 cyl, the front middle?

Oddly, the CEL turned off today after a few errands.. the last couple times I started it, the CEL remained off. Really dunno what to think of that.. it's not shuddering at idle like it did that first time, but it still seems to be running a little off.

OK, I know this is old however recently had some slight bucking the other day and was figuring my trans is going. Current trans @162K with the trans replaced at 118K under the super extended warranty. So driving today and thinking about posting here, and low and behold its starts bucking non-stop, with the CEL flashing, bucking going away and CEL off until shortly later when both returned.
Threw a cheap $5 eBay OBD reader on it and its reporting P0304.
So while I'll swap it with #6 tomorrow, if I had an actual trans problem would I have also seen a corresponding trans code, or does it mask other codes as mentioned above?
Odd thing is, once it started happening today I checked the tach to see if it was shooting up/down while bucking as it might if there were slipping, however it seemed pretty rock steady and occasionally up/down maybe 100rpm.
Engine actually sounds fine when this is happening, would be great if it were just a coil pack.
And I just had the plugs and valve cover gaskets replaced couple months ago and the shop owner had suggested replacing the coil packs at the time....

A $5 scan tool won't read transmission codes in these cars. If you have an Android phone/tablet, buy a cheap OBD II bluetooth adapter and download the CVTz50 app for $5 to scan the TCM (...it also has other diagnostic capabilities).

Thanks, I know I'm cutting corners. Bought some 'Economy' cam sensors from Rock and had to finally get a Hitachi.

I know about ratings and games that can be played, but honestly coilpacks seems to be a rubber boot with a small 12v/45kv transformer built-in. Couple of wire wound ferrite cores. Seems like average quality, so I'll replace the one and hopefully the fault goes away. Not sure I want to replace the others now, while its still sunny-ish outside as they aren't faulting. Much better to wait for mid-winter.
Appreciate the responses, can anyone tell me if my hopes are too high that this might somehow be contributing to my trans jerking?
I'm thinking I just lucked out getting both to happen at about the same time and its toast.
Funny, Carvana offered me $300 for it.

Yeah, Carvana has kinda run out of money over the last year to continue overpaying for used cars. The game may be over for them...

Ouch!

In other news, my coilpacks came, and swapped out the bad one.
Sounded fine when I started her up, and after backing out the driveway I gave it some gas to avoid upcoming traffic and put me back in my seat like it was new.
Best part is, although I only did 5 miles on it, no shaking or lurching whatsoever.
Trying to get an online Play store card to get the cvt app, however I've unclenched from DefCon2 to DefCon4.

I'll update once I get the app, however thanks everyone for your time.

OK, got the app and surprisingly it works with this cheap $5 eBay Bluetooth OBD.

Couple notable things.
1 CVT DTC Detected P0725 Engine Speed SIG
Found this thread code PO725
and noticed it said my BATLVL was 71%, on a 1 yr. old battery.
When I replaced the battery I cleaned the all terminals and did the vaseline trick. Which seems to have worked as they look clean. I'll clean them again, and check alternator output?

CVTF was red with 144340 I think, though this engine always runs well within temp range. Maybe its bad and its been running hotter than I think? Its never seemed hot though.
I am wondering if its possible that they didn't reset the cvtf when trans was replaced in 2016, or if that number is normal for a 45K Jatco?
