Yes, this can be done by the dealer. Spoke with a person on here that had the dealer do it for free, they now unlock in park.

I just took my 2015 Murano into the dealer today and they reprogrammed the doors so they unlock when I put the car in Park.

No more fumbling for the door lock switch to hop out of the car to check the mailbox on the way home.

Any idea exactly what the dealer did ? My wife absolutely hates the fact she has to fumble for the unlock button to get out of the car without shutting it off.

 

I found the answer, but it was in my 2010 Maxima owner’s manual.


This was taken from 2015 Murano Owner's Manual with my Maxima information 3a added in red.

AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS
● All doors lock automatically when the vehicle
speed reaches 15 MPH (24 km/h).
● All doors unlock automatically when the ignition
switch is placed in the OFF position.
The automatic unlock function can be deactivated
or activated. To deactivate or activate
the automatic door unlock system, perform
the following procedure:
1. Close all doors.
2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Within 20 seconds of performing Step 2,
push and hold the power door lock switch to
the position (UNLOCK) for more than
five seconds.
3a. To change AUTO LOCK setting: push and hold
the power door lock switch to the (LOCK) poisiton
for more than 5 seconds.
4. When activated, the hazard indicator will
flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard
indicator will flash once.
5. The ignition switch must be placed in the
OFF and ON position again between each
setting change.
When the automatic door unlock system is deactivated,
the doors do not unlock when the ignition
switch is placed in the OFF position. To unlock
the door manually, use the inside lock knob or the
power door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s
side).
NOTE:
The automatic door unlock function can be
changed using the Vehicle Settings in the
vehicle information display. The “Selective
Unlock” choices are:
● ON
● OFF

 

Sothe only options are 1. Doors unlock when car ignition is turned off 2. Or it won't unlock when the cars ignition is turned off?

 

I think the choices are: The doors lock automatically or the doors will only lock when you lock them.

 

It's a simple computer hookup that gives 4 options for locking/unlocking the doors. Mode 2 is the option that unlocks automatically when put in park and locks when taken out of park, assuming gen 3 is the same. My dealer did not know about it either when I first brought in my 09 but they did some research and found out how. They also did my 14. Takes less than 15 min to do. I may have been the first to request it done at my dealer so it's possible your dealer doesn't know it can be done. Just be persistent, it's better for all that they be informed of what can be done on the vehicle and you'll be the one to do it :29:

 

Okay then. I see you have a 14 and had an 09 so you have had 2 Gen 2's. My 11 they did it on but they told me this one they couldn't. I assume from the other posts others are being told the same. I thought you had a 15'. No big deal and thanks for the info.

 

I went to the dealer for a few checks ups and asked them about it. They said no problem and set it so the doors unlock when the car is put in park. That's what I wanted.

in chapter 3-6 Pre-driving checks and adjustments

Thanks Blinky for keeping on me. I called my Service department. My regular service gal went to another tech and he found it can be done!! So she said she yelled at the original one and called him stupid and I am going to have it done next oil change. LOL

Could someone post instructions or where the option is located? I have gone to 2 local dealers and both told me they don't see an option for this.

 

I gave my dealer a list of the dealers you guys provided me with and they ignored it. They instead contacted Nissan and got instructions from the "system designer". Two weeks later I'm still waiting on them to figure this out. They wanted to try it on a Murano in their lot first.
Sure would like to grab this "system designer" by the neck if he did the nav system !

 

Got mine programmed at Willowbrook Nissan in NJ. It took about 10 minutes.....SOOOO much better
to have the doors unlock when put in park!

 

I guess I am different . . . I would never want my door locks to unlock in park! Lots of times I put it in park and I am not getting out of the car, right away! For all your wives who worry about car jackings & stuff, here is a golden opportunity for them! Then ya gotta' re-lock the damned doors again . . .

 

Yes, thanks to you I went to the dealer and now unlocks on park.

 

Dealership told me that it couldn't be done. Went to NicoClub site and downloaded dlk.pdf. Printed page DLK-24, went to the dealer, friend plugged up the computer and we found that MODE 2 does the trick. Show the picture I attached to your dealer tech if they need a reference.

 

I took mines to the dealer today and told him it would be MODE 2 but once I left the dealer I noticed it only unlocks the driver door on park. Is it supposed to be only driver or all doors? Thanks in advance!!!

 

Mine only unlocks the driver door. Going in tomorrow to correct that to all 4. Taking the picture!! LOL

 

Could the folks that have ALL 4 Doors unlocking sound off? I need to know what model you have. Mine is a Platinum and the dealer says the only option is either NO DOORS UNLOCK..Or the DRIVERS SIDE ONLY and they state it's model specific which I find hard to believe.

 

Even with the picture the "Tech" couldn't figure it out? Geez. Mine is an SL, but it doesn't matter. I did the same thing with my 2011 Juke. This isn't a new option for Nissans.

The instructions that I have attached actually say "All doors are unlocked when shifting the selector lever from any position other than P to the P position". Look under "P Range Interlock Door Unlock" in the attachment. Print the previous picture and this one and give it to him. Have him connect the computer, go to "Work Support" mode and find the Unlock functions just like in the previous picture. It's MODE 2, I don't know if I can help him any more than that.

Please let me know how it turns out, this shouldn't be that difficult for them.

 

All four unlock in park on mine. All I did was show the tech the picture that Grey1 posted and that was it.

These instructions are straight from the Nissan Service Manual for our car. This particular option is NOT model specific or it would state it. I'm really not sure what the Tech did to get "one" door to unlock.

 

Grey. I asked the tech about that picture and he acted like he knew what it was but now I am wondering. I will take it in next week.


So was there anything else specific I can print out of that manual you know of? Like a certain page or pages?

The second picture I posted was page 24 (DLK-24) of the Service Manual. The first picture I posted was the screen that he should be looking at using their computer. They have to hook the computer up to change this option. There really isn't a need for a Tech to know this option, but they should be able to find it and change it.
