I had mine replaced at the dealer on my 2nd Gen Murano. As i recall it wasn't to badly priced and I don't see how it can be done anywhere else since it doesn't come up too much..
It's easy to pop off if you want to do it yourself. There are threads on here about how to do it. You remove the nut from the shaft and lift off the entire blade.
However, I'd just have it done at the dealer. I'm going to have all my blades replaced once winter is over.
It's about the easiest job you can do on a car. Go to the parts store, buy a wiper that fits, pry up the cap over the nut at the bottom end, remove nut, swap wiper, re-install nut, pop plastic cover back in place. This is less than a one-beer job.
Pilgrim's EXACTLY right (again)! Plus, think of the time you save by not having to drive to your dealer, wait for your car, and then drive back home. Wiper blades are almost always the simplest jobs to do.
Not on my 2014 guys and I don't want to start a war! I posted a pic on another thread and there's a like a plastic wedge molded in the arm that prevents lifting it more than a couple of inches even with the plastic cap removed. Upon closer examination, it appears this was an after thought and they modified the mold...Perhaps if someone was to force the arm up it would eventually lift but since it's made of plastic and and in the replacement charts they say to remove the arm, I don't want to chance it! Unless there was a production change or another supplier, who knows? A small puller would certainly help removing the arm after a few years if corrosion makes it hard to pull it off. A little white lithium grease on the splines would certainly facilitate future removal; this is what I've done on previous vehicles for both front and rear wipers.
I would think the arm is designed this way to prevent breaking it in automatic car washes as rear wipers are generally easily lifted as they are really short with a just a little spring applying pressure to the rear glass. On my 2012 RAV4, the arm would not lift until you remove the plastic cap, a great idea IMO.
Mine only lifts 2 inches from the glass at the bottom. With the Roc lock, that is plenty of room to get blade on and off, but you must wrestle with it a bit. At first I was perplexed as I was used to front wiper arms going up 90 degrees, staying up and have wiper blades rotate for access. Not needed in the back...as long as you can get the blade off the glass, should be possible.
Just looked up fitment at wipers123 website and it say that "arm removal required" for BOTH 2010 and 2014 models...
I think the only way to settle this is a video of replacing rear wiper blade ... Seeing is believing
Edit: so iwent on YouTube to see if they had a video and this guy removes the nut to take off wiper arm, but he lifts the blade off glass the exact same distance I'd to change the blade (at 11 seconds), but he does it to remove the arm...go figure http://youtu.be/vlkTADD-RJk
I think I understand the confusion! Replacing the whole blade assembly requires removing the the cover, the nut and removing the whole wiper arm as the blade has to pivot about 90° in order for it to come off. Replacing only the insert or refill as it's also called does not require removing anything; justy lift the blade, slide out the old rubber insert and slide in the new one!
I often find the whole arm on Ebay for same price as just the refill!!! Once you pop up the bottom portion of the arm, you can rotate the old wiper arm enough to take it off. Couldn't be easier once you figure the trick of popping up the lower cover.
Wirth315, you probably meant the whole blade because the whole arm needs to have both the plastic cap and the nut removed.
Sorry, but I don't get it. I tried and it doesn't work for me; I would need pics or a short video as some members like me and Trico who sells direct replacement blades say it can't be done and some say it can! I'm a good handyman and I read manuals...! No big deal, removing the nut takes very little time but one has to be careful not to damage the splines while wiggling the arm back and forth to remove it as it gets seized very easily over time especiallly in areas where they use a lot of road salt.
Hi all,
I just wanted to share my experience regarding rear wiper replacement. I have a 2014 SV and had to change the rear wiper blade. I read the forums and decided to do it myself.
However, just as Freedom55 mentioned it, you can not simply lift the arm to replace the blade as it only moves up about an inch. When I tried to remove the whole arm by removing the nut I found it difficult and was afraid to break something if i forced it.
In the end I took it to the dealer to do the replacement. Surprisingly though, the dealer tech decided he can force the arm to move it up and eventually broke it. Since it was the tech who broke the wiper arm they replaced it with a new one for free. And guess what, now the replaced arm can be lifted up to change the blade without removing the whole arm.
My guess is that they changed the design of the rear wiper arm either as a cost cutting measure or for some improvement that I can't see.
On the 3rd Gen there's just enough clearance to lift the wiper arm to remove the blade assembly. With my 2003, I had to replace the rubber blade only because no one seemed to carry a replacement assembly that had the correct adapter.
On my 2010 year MO, just the rubber blade can be replaced, keeping the original "backbone" assembly.
A lot cheaper, buying a $2 blade, instead of a rip-off $20 priced assembly of blade and backbone.
Cheers
