Reprogram Key Fob Not Working!

Hey guys

I'm in Australia and I have a 2006 Mo TI. I have only recently purchased the vehicle second hand and it came with a fob that wasn't working. Put a new battery in it and it still wouldn't work.

So I bought a brand new one off eBay, not from a random but someone I know who has sold 100's of them that have all worked fine.

I have used the following procedure to try and program my new fob:

1Close all doors and lock all doors
2Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds. The hazard warning lamp will then flash.)
NOTE:Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
NOTE:Do not rush the insertion/removal key cycling process. The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is accurately completed.
3Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4Press any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
NOTE:Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful. The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is accurately completed and programming is successful.
NOTE:If there is only one remote controller skip step 5.
5Additional ID code entry Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch (In power window main switch)
6Remove key from ignition
7Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)

SO MY PROBLEM IS RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS PROCEDURE! When I jump in the car close all doors and lock them using the drivers side button. Then insert my key on the 6th time instead of the hazard lights flashing the whole car unlocks, effectively resetting the whole procedure.

I have pulled out the batter on the fob, unconnected my main car battery, I have tried doing the procedure with the car starting unlocked, I have tried inserting the key 20 times but no matter what I do I can't get my hazard lights to flash telling me that it is in learning mode.

Any thoughts or help please! This is so frustrating!!!

Thanks:)

You may not have the proper procedure. I have purchased fobs on-line that came with instructions similar to what you are trying to accomplish. It has worked for me on each occasion with two different vehicles. I was even able to program the 2nd fob per the instructions.

It took me a couple of tries and reading/memorizing the procedure so the timing was just right. I can't find the instructions but they may change depending on the type car your trying to program the fob for.

I'm no help for you other than to say I've been able to program fobs for two different vehicles following the strange procedure required.

I do remember you need the correct fob for the car and the VIN number sent to the key fob seller will usually get you the correct procedure for programming it.

Thanks for that reply. The problem though is that I can't even get to the stage where I can push the button on my fob, because on the 6th time I insert the key it trigger my central locking to unlock rather than getting the hazards to flash?

If you have a seperate Key and Remote use the procedure below.

If you have a Remote Key Combo (Remote in the head of your key). There is no manual way to program keyless remotes to this vehicle. Please contact a Locksmith or your local dealership to get a quote on how much it will cost to program keyless remotes to this vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.

1. Close and lock all doors with the driver's side power lock/unlock switch.

2. Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.

3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.

4. Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.

5. If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. Repeat this step for each transmitter (including any existing transmitters).

6. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition, unlock doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door.

Here is a youtube of a guy going thru the procedure. Good luck.

Yes, thanks for this guys. I have a separate key and remote but the problem happens on the first step. When I insert and take the key out for the 6th time the whole car unlocks rather than the hazards flashing.

Not trying to put you down but go to a big box store and buy some more fresh batteries to try. Big box stores always have fresh ones because they go through a lot. Also make sure you take off the protective paper film and most importantly, make sure it's installed correct side up. And maybe in the end the "new fob" you bought is no good.
