Ds feels more powerful because it uses a lower ratio mapping for the CVT and it requires less throttle to get high RPM. You'd get the same acceleration in D if you floor it, except you'd have to wait until the RPMs reached the point that Ds holds it at under normal conditions.

Technically you cannot redline it as the fuel cutoff would kick in to protect the engine.
