It was quite a fiasco getting the car in for service (battery died overnight somehow) and NOB's idea of "giving me a loaner car" was having Enterprise pick me up and make me wait even longer while they scrambled to find cars for the 15 people in the waiting room... luckily, the lady at Enterprise was real kind and put me in a 04 Ford Explorer.

Same thing happened to me when the alternator died over Christmas. To top it off no enterprise in the entire Pittsburgh region had a car. Everyone was expecting one in later that night, but each time I called to check up on them they said they had not received it yet and would call me when they did. Well, I got my MO back from service and never received a call from 1 enterprise location. I understand that 'that's life' and you have to 'make the most of it', but it would feel nice to be treated like your needs are important by 1 car company I buy from.

 

VG, can you please update your service visit?
Mine was a total failure regarding the brake TSB.
My brakes are screaming louder than ever right now.
Still just one time on cold pads in the morning.
How about yours, did the TSB do the trick?

I wondering... the TSB does not require NEW pads just to change them. I wonder what the dealer does.... they might just be rotating the pads... thoughts?

 

VG I asked because I have been looking for a good source of info regarding the networking of my X-box that is going in the MO. From time to time I have problems with my wireless connection and it is good to know we have GG (game Geek) on the forum.

Only been two days, but there is no squeal... The service guy said he performed the TSB and put new pads on there.

Just did my 2 yr visit (2/23/05) at the dealer & complained again about the reverse eeeeeekkkkkinnngggg & this time they did replace the pads.
Life seemed a little better this morning while backing out of my garage since I was able to keep the peace & QUITE!!!!!

 

Even after pad replacement. I still have a squeal. It is much less than before. It's one tap on the brakes in reverse, one quickie eeekk. Hope to see if goes away like someone above posted. Not enough to get my ire up at the moment. I am going to watch, wait and listen for now.

I doubt new pads will solve the problem. Disc brake squealing is primarily the result of improper shim installation, and the goo backing grease not used. The thin copper grease the dealer might use will wear out over time. The best kind of grease is the thick type that almost looks like mousse - its really sticky and airy - a good medium to absorb vibration, the source of the disc brake noise.

 

Eric, I took the TSB in and had them do whatever was on it. It included the goop and new pads. I had to park it overnight at the Dealer just to get cold pads. They said they heard it loud and clear.
I think Homer said somewhere that the TSB did not fix his deal and he switched to ceramic's. Homer, you listening in on this? Can you verify my tale?

Yes, the TSB absolutely fixed my problem.
I may have been one of the first to have had the tSB applied.
When I went in, they looked up the TSB and had to order the new pads. They had some goop and tried that. No dice.
Went back in some weeks later and they installed the new pads and all has been well since then. OK I get the occasional short and not very loud "eek". But no LOUD drawn out SSSQQQUUUEEEAAAALLLLL!!!!!! Every time I back out of the garage in the morn.
Man I almost sold this car over that!

TSB, Extended Warranty

I'm trying to have this TSB applied to my squeeky brakes. My question is:

1 By being a TSB is the cost picked up by Nissan?
2 If I have the extended warranty, is the cost picked up by Nissan?
3 When is the cost not covered by Nissan?

I just got a call from the dealer and they say that it is not under warranty and there would be a cost to me. I also have the extended warranty. It's possible I don't quite understand whose liability this is.

If its a TSB, Nissan pays for it if the dealer determines it applies to your vehicle.

thanks for the response. This TSB does not even specify any mileage limitation. That was another reason they did not want to do the work or pick up the cost. Heck, why would they even do under my warranty? Maybe brakes are not covered.

The TSB specifies a new brake pad to remedy the squeaking noise. However, Nissan will not cover squeaking that is the result of a worn out shim or a low pad that has reached the audible indicators.

If your Murano makes brake noise under the exact conditions specified in the TSB, it should be covered. If its not the same conditions, the dealer will most likely try to charge you for it.

TSB's are just the way manufaturers address common problems found in a particular vehicle.
That way the mechanic can have a cheat sheet on what the problem is & what to do about it.
My brakes were fixed using the TSB but my MO was only 23 months old & was loudly squeeking in reverse.
If yours is under 36 months it should be covered under your warranty if it is squeeking in reverse.
Otherwise the dealer could say it is just normal wear & tear.
& your exteneded warranty probably excludes normal wear & tear items.

 

I though I had read this would eventually go away, but still no luck at 8k miles.

After my TSB was completed I still had the squeak. Not as bad, it just lasted for a second or less in the AM. I have been meaning to go back to the Dealer but the squeak went away.
Why, I don't know. I went about 1 or 2 thousand miles after the TSB and now it just does not happen. FYI, I'm somewhere about 16K on miles, so if your's is still making some noise after the TSB, give it a while to seat in or something.

Got squeaky brakes on my '05... No TSB for an 05 yet. Has anyone had this fixed by the dealer?

 

The TSB applies, strangely, only going in reverse. When going forward and braking, the dealer will not perform any work for noisy brakes in such a case. I know because that was what my Murano was doing and the dealer tried to sell me a $100 rip off "caliper cleaning" service. I didn't bite, and instead installed new brake pads on my own along with applying anti squeal goo (that should be the real solution, not new pads actually). Squeak Update.
Now at 21K on the MO and the squeak is a minor irritation.
It comes and goes, it is only in reverse and only a half second long in duration. It will not happen all the time. When at the Dealer for the alternator recall, I told them the squeak was still there.
Got the typical "could not reproduce noise" statement on my ticket when I left the dealer.
It is much less than the original but it's still there...sometimes.

I'd like to add my MO to the list of brakes sqeaking... only about 6500 miles.. one of the front brakes squeak ALL THE TIME when coming to a stop.

VERY DISAPPOINTED! definitely will take this into consideration on my next vehicle purchase..

But don't be ridiculous.

You could have a stone embedded in a pad or something.

At least take it to the dealer and see if he can fix it.

Wow, you're even tougher on the dealers than I am. Homer's right, it could be something very quick and easy to fix. And since you only have 6,500 miles on your MO, you are still in the "free adjustments" period.
