Anybody have a sunroof deflector installed?

I believe the sunroof is 38 inches across on the 09 Murano. Will there be a lot of differnce between OEM and another brands?

I have seen the price from $32 all the way to $100

I've found the built-in deflector to be sufficient for the 09 MO. There is barely any air flow as it is from the sunroof.

I've had sunroof deflectors on previous vehicles, both OEM and 3rd party and didn't notice a difference between them.

Any specific reason to get the sunroof deflector on a MO? I usually purchased the deflector to get rid of excessive buffeting or whistling noise from the sunroof, but the MO has neither of those problems.

It is, but sounds like you want a bit more wind deflection.

I don't remember anyone buying a wind deflector for the 09 MO's. If you can, let us know how it is once installed. I'm especially interested to know if it further reduces wind noise and also wind in the cabin.

My only concern with the MO's sunroof is that compared to previous vehicles I can barely feel any wind with the sunroof open. I'm too afraid a separate wind deflector would further reduce what little I do feel.

I find the mesh "wind deflector" to do an OK job deflecting the wind, but it whistles so much over 40 mph that I can't leave the roof open.

I could not find any solid OEM or aftermarket deflectors. I have used the MacNeil one before and I emailed them about making one for the 09-10 Murano. Any other sources?

I have the oem but it seems that AVS is a pretty good brand. A lot of my customers have their window vent shades, I'd be surprised if they didn't make one for the sunroof. The AVS products are car wash resistant as well.

They are list under "Lund International" but don't seem to have any sunroof deflectors... a lot of other good stuff though :)

Wind Deflector - Mod Ideas???

Hi All,

Ok, I am really bothered by the high-pitched whistling from the mesh wind deflector at highway speed. I have removed my cross-rails and and can verify that all the noise is coming from the mesh by compressing it while driving.

I am thinking about a mod to replace this mesh with a solid black sailcloth that I will have to have fabricated from the mesh template once removed. Anyone detach this mesh deflector? It looks like it is just held on by two screws on the upper ends and by the row of screws on the bottom. Anyone know?

Other suggestions?

Thanks - Matt

Here is the picture of what I believe is the attachment point in back. Can anyone verify?

Glad to see I am not the only one with sensitive ears!

Just reviewd my mod idea with the wife (why? because she is an engineer). She doesn't think the sailcloth idea will work because the the load/force will be too great on those flimsy little pop-up arms at highway speeds - probably why Nissan used mesh in the first place. Guess I will hold out for an aftermarket plastic deflector that is made for the MO.

Brewman: The suggestion of riding in a Murano with a sunroof deflector in place is a good one. I installed the rain deflectors on the four side windows, and now notice a wind noise coming from the back of the car. Took it to the dealership and the rep immediately pointed to the deflectors and said I had changed the aerodynamics of the vehicle and that the wind noise was more than likely comiing from those.

A quick check is to take some of that blue painters tape (1 or 2 inch wide and doesn't leave residue on the car) and tape up any seam or add-on you may have installed....then go out on the freeway and take it up to speed.....only tape one window or seam at a time to see if the noise stops. By a process of elimination, you can track down your culprit....rather basic and simple solution but it sounds like it would work. I haven't tried it yet, but will to see if my "personalization" has caused an unforseen result. The deflectors work great in the rain to allow you to crack the windows and keep out the rain, especially the driver's window...but I hadn't considered the potential for wind noise.

Ok, I bit the bullet and ordered an aftermarket deflector. Auto Ventshade 77004 Windflector Classic Style Sunroof Wind Deflector. It was $39, so if it isn't what I want, no big deal. The AVS deflectors have received consistently very good reviews, so I am hoping this works out. The MOs sunroof opening is 38" so this one for up to 38.5" should fit perfectly.

Aesthetically I agree with others that they are not as "pretty" as the unblemished MO, but this is a case of function over form. Why have a sunroof if you can't use it? I have had sunroofs in my cars for the last 20 years and used ALL of them at highway speeds until I got the MO.

I'll post pics and a review as soon as I get installed.

Yes - The front panel, just ahead of the part that opens, appears to be black glass. The sides along the glass panel that opens are plastic! I remember when the car roof was all metal!? You can see it in my pic posted earlier in this thread...

Auto Ventshade wind deflector installed PICS

Hi All,

Ok, here is the report on the Auto Ventshade wind deflector I installed.

Overall, a very easy mod and very effective at reducing high pitched wind noise noise from factory mesh "deflector" on my 2010.
Virtually silent around town and just normal low pitch buffeting at highway speeds from cross winds.

I would rate it as an A- for overall effectiveness and there is NO additional wind noise when it was closed. I can now use my moonroof at all speeds - YAY!

As for the looks, well I give a C, but the good news I can't see it from the inside, so most of the time I won't care! :D

Full-size pics in my gallery as well.

For $39 I think it is a winner and it can be taken off by a future owner if needed (or if they come out with an in-channel deflector.

Matt, your car really looked nice until you put that thing on the roof. I like the shark fin antenna and the body side moldings, and also the lower grill insert. Those are things I would consider purchasing.

Unfortunately that appendage you put on top to deflect air is not one of them.

Thanks for finding a deflector that will actually let us use our sunroofs. One question though. The roof is curved (domed) somewhat and is the deflector you installed curved also? The ones I looked at in the past where straight, or flat, on the bottom. These would require it to be bent somewhat to be installed and I would be concerned with that.

UPDATE - I can NOT recommend the wind deflector!!!

Ok, the deflector is now history. I agree with others (Halwg) that this was not an image enhancing mod, but that is not why I took it off. Long story short, the corners of the deflector were lifting off, several inches on each corner. It was only a matter of time before it went airborne on the highway! I washed twice and wiped down with alcohol 3x, so I don't think it was the surface prep that was the issue. However, there is a seam between the side panel and the front one, and that is where is most likely started to come undone.

Anyway, back to the "pretty" mo :)

I was wrong and Halwg was right.

when I started the similar thread before, I couldn't get any good replies at that time and now, still the same, unfortunately.

Whew!, I was biting my tongue this whole thread, for I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Needless to say, seems like everything turned out for the better. Take care!
