The Window Rattle

Okay, I've dealt with this problem ever since I took ownership. I figured it might go away as the vehicle 'settled' and all the materials weathered, but noooo...

My driver and passenger windows (and very rarely the rear pass/driver) rattle. Or, more accurately, something is rattling against them and it resonates across the entire window surface. This sounds like a tapping or a creaking (but with a more rapid report, like a *tap!*) and happens in two situations:

Driver's side will tap when hitting a bump on the passenger side. Usually these are creases between sections of paved road. Sudden, quick, snappy bumps.

Passenger side will tap when hitting a similar bump on the driver side.

Both sides will tap if whatever causes the bump hits both sides of the car.

Also, occasionally tapping when the vehicle's weight shifts, like going around curves.

These only happen when the windows are fully up. These also happen MUCH more frequently if it is cold outside, often to the point where -any- bump will result in tap-tap-tap.

Given the topics on "the other Murano forum", people have had a variety of solutions for this. A variety of problems, I imagine. One dude took his door apart and tweaked something where the window rests. Frankly, I don't know what to do.

My MO is going in for 7500 service soon, and I will mention it to the techs. Again. The first time, they heard it on my initial drive, but then couldn't reproduce it (that old line) on subsequent test drives. They must've driven it around their nicely paved, smooth parking lot, because on any normal road, it'll do it. Often.

Mrf. :/

Wife fixed rattle (cont.)

She started playing around at the back of the rear view mirror and it quit. It came back later that day, so she held the wiring at the back of the mirror and it immediately quit. Over the last month, it has returned twice. Both times, she pressed on the assembly and the wire back there and it quit. It hasn't been back for two weeks. The windshield must have spread the sound like an amphitheater. Sorry about the length of the post, but I hope that this helps someone.

That's funny esemes, I tried that same fix this morning and the sound vanished or quieted down for as long as I pressed against the armrest.

At least that helps narrow it down a bit.
ALSO, IF YOU PULL ON THE ARMREST, the sound stopps happening........

Just got back from my dealer after having to have my bose radio replaced. I mentioned the window noise to him and he gave me a copy of the tsb that just came out Oct 1. I am not to sure if this will fix the problem but Nissan must be aware that there is one
TSB-Classification# BT03-036 Reference #NTB03-090 Titled 2003-04 Murano; Noise from door window area. They ordered the parts , will keep updated as to results

My dealer gave me a copy. I assume it was from the Nissan TSB site that Enforcer talks about. If someone could exlplain how to put scanned items on the post I could try to scan it

email me, and i'll reduce it to a more friendly size for posting....

okay, now im confused.......

TSB bt0-036 (noise from door windoiw area) cannot be found on the dealers end, or thru NNA's system.....

in fact, NNA told me theres no info at all in regards to the doors or window rattles on the muranos..........

wheres this tsb report??? (NNA gave me a fax # to call them on)

ALPAT, that's all well and good, but according to esemes, that TSB doesn't exist. He's even checked with Nissan North America.

This is a Murano TSB, right?

We'll need to see proof, somehow. If you have a fax machine, you can fax me a copy of the TSB...

Okay, that clears things up a bit esemes. Did you check with your dealership, then? I haven't called mine yet.

i called the dealership (arghhhh) and they searched and searched... no bulletins on record (theirs)

then i phobed NNA and they searched (and searched) thru all the MO tsb's and warranty and recall files and still turned up nothing.... they did give me a fax # to send them any documents i may find...... (as they said its a slim chance they missed it)

now what??

Viewing TSBs is a bit of a pain...

Nissan has a site for them, but you have to pay to view the TSB information. You can see what TSBs are out there for free... but nothing more than their titles and #'s.

National Highway Safety Something also has a site with TSB and recall information, if I remember right. Theirs is a bit more informative.

Links to both are in the sticky in the Problems forum called "Technical Service Bulletins".

The problem HERE is that ALPAT apparently has a TSB for Murano window/door rattling that Nissan itself does not have.

That's exactly the problem, Gonzo. Alpat says he got it from his dealership when they fixed his problem, but we haven't seen proof of it and NNA/dealerships are saying that this TSB does not exist.

It's pretty frustrating

It was a particularly cold morning today and man, my MO windows rattled all the way to work :(
