I couldn't watch the installation (it was done on Friday while I was at work) so I can't answer for certain.

Nate told me afterward that the way the access point for the wiring is constructed, it was very tight, well sealed, and he didn't want to "break into" it.

I got the impression that between the difficulty for the access point for the wiring and the dremel tool need to grind down the inside part where the mirror's travel was limited, that the Murano may not be suitable for the typical Muth do it yourself install kit.

(He never said this, it's just my interpetation of how difficult it was to complete.)

My set of mirrors was actually custom made, so they truly are a prototype.

I'd say contact Chris at Muthco and see what he has to say about going into production on a kit. After all, they're the experts, and if it can be made easier, they'll figure out a way to do it.

Re access into the cabin, I had a similar experience when pulling the door lock/unlock signals from the driver's door for my aftermarket alarm. I think mine is neater. I will post a picture when I get around to it.

Muth Mirrors Response

Here is the reply from Th Muth Mirror Man:

Dear Don

The kit you are seeing is the initial prototypes for the Murano. The feedback we've received from Doug is very positive. Once we confirm availability of components, our next step is to launch this program for production. Typically, this engineering process can take anywhere from 90-120 days before it is released to our production. I have you flagged for notification and will contact you if/when we get to that point.

We will see, Personally I like the idea of no wires! and only 45 to 60 days of wait! GRIP :D

The wireless people are going to ship mine by Christmass. GRIP :2:

$150 / $180 Not yet finalized. Probably not bad considering transmitter, two receivers, solar cells, batteries, etc. and saves installation. GRIP :D

Don, I didn't see anything on their web site about the frequency they use for the wireless transmission. Do you know anymore about it? I was wondering if there's any possibility of interference with the wireless TPMS?

I like my mirrors set all the way out and as it is now, I get a pretty bright reflection in the inside of the mirror housing when the LED's are flashing. This system describes how the LED's are mounted on the outside edge of the convex mirror so they may actually be inside the housing, if you have you mirrors set all the way out like I do.

I like the idea of the wireless install, although I'm not sure they would work for me.

Another possibility of the wireless install is ....

someone my knows what it is and may try to steal it....:)
oh well...

I don't know about any of those things. But they are good questions.

I'll send them an email about the questions and see if I get an answer. I am fortunate that there is not much theft going on around here and I park in a garage in a gated community. We know all the neighbors so that takes care of at least half of the problem. That said I do pick up a few visitors from the airport and go shopping. Hopefully they will look a lot like those wide angle attachments that you see on lots of vehicles.

I hope they are not too heavy for the adhesive to maintain them in position, if strong enough it will probably resistant a simple pull of someone trying a quick snatch.

As I said I'll ask about the frequency. Between the TPMS, Home Link, cell phone, it's a wonder anything works on the MO.

From the illustration it look like the beams may be shielded from the inside view, you would hope they at least thought of that.

I really appreciate the input and will ask for a "satisfaction guarantee" Must say I am in love with the simply installation approach. Be nice if Muth Mirrors would be both positive and quicker in price and delivery. I am not the most patient fellow and would like to get the Mo ready with all it's goodies before I take the cross country trip in June. GRIP :D

These are just stick ons aren't they? Probably a reasonable solution assuming you get a good price. I wonder how the adhesive on these (or even the wireless ones) would hold up with the heated mirrors?

The Muth version uses a heat element on the back of the mirror that doesn't cover out to the portion where the LED's are attached.

I wonder if there's a design reason or if it's just simpler that way?

With 120F in the shade and 150F surface with Sun load in late August down here, I assume the adherence will be OK if they use any of the automotive adhesive strips, that the auto manufactures use for moldings etc. If for some crazy reason not, I'll use Silicone adhesive, IF I get them as it is good in boiling water. GRIP :D

Muth Mirrors

dklanecky1,

Have you ever heard anything more about the availability of the turn signal mirrors from Muth? Grip :D

As a big time ebayer, I have a lot of experience packing and shipping big stuff. This is not a big package by my way of thinking, also not very heavy. Unfortunately, the UPS stores really rape the consumer, both on the packing and actual shipping. I never use them myself.
If I were doing this, I would dumpster dive a high end Video store for a projection tv box, make a box and ship it Fedex Ground. I am sure I could do this for under $30.

Were you talking to me!

Ekaxel was that in reference to the Mo standard grille? If so My next birthday is the 70 and a little beyond being able to dumpster dive. We have a UPS store nearby and so I could load the grille and take it over there and get a quote. Guess I'll just throw it away. Just trying to do a kindness, knowing how badly the dealers charge for such things. Grip :D

Rots of Ruck! Congrats on the agility! Besides I have no packaging materials and guess I did not want to spend my time trying to make the "gift" a even better deal. Trash comes on Wednesday so in it goes. GRIP :)

Anything new on the Muth Signal Mirrors? GRIP :D

More info on solar powered wireless turnsignals.

Dear Don,

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. Here are the answers to your questions.

1. As they operated by a solar charged battery, approximately how much usage before the battery is discharged. A fully charged battery will last 4-5 hours of continuous blinking. A fully charged battery, in complete darkness without blinking, for example in a storage garage, will last approximately two weeks.

2. As the LEDs are "outside" is the glare blocked from the driver at all. The LEDs are directional LEDs and are angled at a 45 degree angle, off of the vehicle's mirror. The driver can see the LEDs blink, but it is just a glow and does not create a glare.

3. What frequency does the system operate at, ( MO's have a wireless tire pressure monitoring system and they worry) The TurnSmart operates at a 915 Mhz frequency.

4. What kind of warranty will early adopters have? The TurnSmart Mirror System has a one year warranty.

I hope I have been able to answer your questions. If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me. I will try to respond a littler quicker next time.

Still hopeing for December delivery GRIP :D
