Hmmm interesting thought...

Where's there a data acquisition system when you need it?

My, am I that much of a geek, that I'm even thinking about it???

Hmmm... Would it be worthwhile then to stick a widget under the accelerator pedal that prevents it from being depressed greater than 80%? Now that would be an interesting mod to increase acceleration... Maybe someone will offer it as an aftermarket performance part for the Nissan murano:

Brand NEW! Increases acceleration by 25%! Forget costly induction or exhaust modifications when you can get the new Nismo approved Muronolater 2500 -- only $29.95 (bolt extra)

I read somwhere that best times 0 - 60 mph were achieved by switching to Ds, applying brakes, then pushing accelerator and releasing the brake. I am pretty sure the author said "floor the accelerator" and "watching the rpm stay at 6500" and speed "quickly increasing". The result was 0 - 60 in 7.5 sec.

Anybody tried this?

Too bad he didn't try it in L. ( I can hear it now....L! What are you, nuts???) Remember, L S D are all just programs on the same hardware.... If you hammer it in L, it realises at some point you're either forgetful, or just and idiot and keeps changing the ratios so you don't redline...

So I'd like to know if that makes a difference off the start!

I just see them being more effective at engine braking (not breaking) and from a roll - but off the line it still feels the same to me.

If you look at a conventional transmission selecting another gear does nothing for acceleration until you reach the end of that gear and then you will continue to accelerate for a little while longer :)
