Hi guys, need your help.
2016 Murano Platinum. Last night I noticed that I hear a buzzing noise from rear of the car when car is off.
Seems to be coming from the rear bumper area. We had a lot of rain last night.
The buzz has been on all night and all day today. Went to the dealer, but they are fully booked until Thursday :(
What can it be?
Thanks!

Is it a buzz or more of a constant tone? Mine started giving off a tone this weekend and I was ableto isolate it to the speaker in the bumper that beeps when the rear hatch is opened. Apparently the bumper facia has to be removed to access the speaker but my issue suddenly stopped before I got to that point.

Thanks! I think you are correct. it does sound more like a constant tone. It lasted for two days and stopped shortly after rain stopped and temperatures dropped below freezing..

Just to give an update. Two days later when I came to dealership it was dry , noise stopped and of course they said nothing is wrong with the car. That's when i asked them to wash it. They came back from the wash and the noise was back on. Dealer replaced the buzzer for tailgate chime and everything is fine now. Except for in the process they lost my wheel locks (they were stored in the spare tire compartment which they had to clean up in order to access the rear bumper :(

THanks for the update. Mine is still acting up when it’s wet outside so I started researching how to change the buzzer. My only hesitation was what if that wasn’t the issue. I’m glad to hear that replacemnent fixes the problem so I’ll move forward in getting this done.

Thanks for info. My 2016 has the same problem. A very high pitched buzz or hum. It stays on for hours even after the car is turned off. The dealer has no idea. Unfortunately it is not on 100% of the time. I have “ringing” in my ears so I cannot hear it but my wife reports that the sound is there again. Finally I recorded it. Is there any new input.

In another thread one of the members suggests that its a pump that is re-pressurizing the fuel system that loses pressure due to the drop in air temperature in winter. This diagnosis was not confirmed by the OP

usually a liftgate problem

if anyone hears that tone coming from the back its usually an indication the liftgate has a problem i had the tone and my liftgate would not open, the tone is only on when stopped or when car is off, the tone turns off if you are moving probably to not distract the driver, if you have the tone/buzz there is a button to disable the liftgate in the glove box. turn off the liftgate switch in the glovebox and if the sound goes away then you know its a liftgate issue. Mine did this and it was the liftgate actuator covered under warranty, funny thing was the tech was like whats that tone/buzz im like thats the liftgate complaining it has a problem, i showed him by using that valet disable switch in the glove boxed and he was like i have heard that on a few of these and never knew i was like yup and you guys charge 140$ and hour lol

Is there now a consensus?

Dealer replaced the buzzer for tailgate chime and everything is fine now. :(

Hi folks,

I’m trying to determine if Sardanapal has nailed the solution. My 2016 has the same high pitch noise and after reading the 2 threads on this site I wasn’t sure what the fix was.
Sardanapal- can you confirm your fix is still working? Also did you get it fixed via warranty - if not can you share cost of part and labour fix time. I’m out of warranty.
Your help will be appreciated.

Hell,
I have the same issue with my car Nissan Murano 2015. It’s start beeping from the back. I’ve just find when it’s rain it beeps. When it’s dry it stopped beeping… it’s weird. Also the trank button sometimes works sometimes it doesn’t work. The beeping doesn’t stop even when the car is off. I have to take to Nissan service this Thursday. If you find the problem please let me know. Thank you.

Might be a different thing I'm hearing, but about two hours after parking in the garage today I noticed a whining-alert sound that was persistent and seemed to be coming from the frontend. Popped the hood, but it didn't seem much louder. I think it might be coming from somewhere center-pass-side of the firewall, or possibly from a CVT component. The sound it made is somewhat similar to the dying chirp a smoke detector makes when the battery is dying, to alert the homeowner to replace it. It also seemed to resemble something losing pressure or releasing pressure in a lazy, wheezy way. The noise sounded maybe every five seconds.

As I was in the middle of yardwork, I didn't record the noise and decided to just start the car. Just the act of hitting the IGN button once without the brake made the sound become more frequent, maybe happening every two seconds. Started the engine, turned it off...no sound for the past 30 minutes. The only thing I did differently today since owning the car is, I backed into the garage. I wonder if stopping in reverse and parking somehow affects the CVT line pressure and it goes through some process to get the fluid back to where it needs to be. If it sounds again within the next couple of hours, I'll update this post. And I'll record the sound and post it here.

This rear end noise just started on my 2016 Platinum.

I ran it through a car wash this evening but didn't hear the tone when I got home.

I noticed the constant tone a few hours later while letting the dog out.

I disconnected the battery and the tone quieted but didn't stop. The power lift gate still operates fine and plays a three-beep alert before moving.

From what I can tell, the sound is coming from the rear bumper area.

How can I reset this?

Thanks

It usually needs to be replaced...

Here's the service bulletin for the procedure:

Same problem with my 2016 murano . Constant buzzing noise coming from rear hatch sonar .Its a part that makes a beeping sound when you open a rear hatch . I did fix this problem this way . instead spending $700 cad for a part I just cleaned inside of this part and its works perfect . I cut out a peace of plastic that covers cupper membrane and cleaned all oxidation ( similar you see on car battery) , sprayed with electrical contact cleaned and scrape with flat screwdriver. After I sprayed with w40 and cover everything with a silver duct tape so no moisture will get in . So fare so good . Not sure why such a simple part cost so much . Rear bumper and hitch has to be removed first . All process took me 1hr and 30 min . most of time was a hitch removal .

Have you looked at the PDF I referenced in the previous post?

Here's the proceedure:
