As per SugarRushMurano request.....

People, Nissan Usa is not going to admit anything unless the NTHSA innitiate an
investigation on this alternator.

In order for NTHSA to innitiate this investigation, owner of MOs whose alternator went south must file their complains. SO far there are only less than 10 complains filed. From the polls and replies, there are quite a number of us.

Admin or moderator, is it possible to make this link as a sticky?
Believe me, we can make a difference.

Glad you were able to get your Murano repaired so quickly, MightyMo.

Kris, the pics are with my daughter's new "Cheap Ass Oregon Scientific 2.0M" camera she got for christmas (that's her in the right of the pic), and stitched with Photoshop. Clearly the camera has an issue with the left edge of the frame being darker than the right, not the first time I've seen weird artifacting issues with cheap digital cameras, and not a major issue for the intended use (for a 6 year old to beat up and learn about cameras).

My good stuff, shot with pro slide film on my Nikon, won't be back from the lab for a few weeks.

Sold my "good staff" (EOS system) a few months ago on ebay. Got EOS digital system: 10D body, 17 - 40L, 28 - 135 mm USM IS, 50 mm 1.8 II lenses, Sigma 500 Super DG flash. Next; Canon 100 - 400/4L IS lens for wildlife......

What made me switch to digital was a 4MP P&S Canon I purchased 2 years ago. I do my own prints at home, 13 x 19 inch. Big enough for me...

Just finished scanning my old photos from around the globe. They started to fade. Next project to edit them slowly. Did you notice, I said "edit", not "photoshop"! I am using Picture Window Pro, a nice photoediting software, color smart, 16bit etc. Like it very much.

PS. Cannot wait for your good staff to arrive.......

Nice setup Kris, but my one big question would be how are you archiving all your scans? CD and DVD media rots and will expire long before a solid slide or print. I'm not sure what is a good solution to this problem these days, nobody I'm aware of makes archival quality CDR media anymore (Kodak used to make expensive gold foil discs, but no more).

It is a good question. I am keeping 2 HDD - mirror images. Also burn DVD. I am not so sure about the DVD. But we can always re-copy them. Let's say every few years. In few years time there will be new media. Hopefuly longer lasting.

Hazaa!! Our tax dollars at work, I just got a call from Cheryl Rose from the DOT asking for details on my alternator failure. We spent a few minutes going over the whole incident, and now I'm emailing her URLs for all our endless alt-failure threads for her to do further research.

Fantastic! Glad to hear DOT takes the complaints seriously.

Good job, MightyMo. When I picked up my Murano after the alternator was replaced I gave the service department printouts of all of the current threads regarding alternator failures.

There are a LOT of past posts on alternators in many different threads, though. To save time, anyone wanting to add such links to correspondence with the NHTSA/DOT might consider simply the Alternator Failure Poll and Alternator Failure List (see links below). The List is a compilation of alternator reports by members, and the Poll gives an idea of the percentage of members reporting the problem.

Let's hope that more people report their alternator failures to the NHTSA and that they continue with their investigation to resolve the issue.

I got a call from her last week too. She had me on the phone for a good twenty minutes. I was amazed someone was actually following up on it. I didn't believe her at first. Jeff

Murano alternater and CVT

I think I have had every problem out there. At 30k my alternator failed in a busy intersection. They took care of it but I was blackmailed by the supervisor in the service department in order to get a rental car free of charge. He said I was to bring a survey back to him either blank or with all questions answered excellent and he would have Nissan pay for my rental.
Then at 35K the transmission failed in the middle of an intersection. This time they don't want to cover the rental expense and they need the car for at least 2 weeks. I will do whatever it takes to let other people know not to buy a murano.

And just so everyone knows they only guarantee the alternater for 30k at a time it is likely that at 60k the same problem will arise and your basic warrenty will expire!

Unless you have the extended warranty, Nissan is not obligated to provide you with a rental car. That is shady what the service manager did, but well, Nissan has no responsibility of providing a free loaner car.

If you did have the extended warrany (which does cover a rental) then I would bring this issue up with Nissan consumer affairs, the number is located in your owners manual.

I did not have an extended warranty, but my dealership gave a free rental for the duration of the repair, which was nearly a week. Guess I got lucky, especially since they covered the alternator replacement 500 miles past warranty!

As far as the blank survey goes, I would report this incident to Nissan and certainly not do business with that dealership again in the future. For some reason, some dealerships can't seem to understand that word-of-mouth and repeat sales are an important part of their business.
