If you had to tomorrow...

Just curious to see responses to this question:
If you had to replace your Murano tomorrow, had no more
than $35k to spend, would you buy another or something else?
and why?

Would I buy another MO tomorrow? In a heartbeat.

At 6'3" and 230 pounds my choices for a comfortable car are limited. I fit the Mo and the Mo fits me.

My particular MO has been relatively trouble-free (knock... knock... ), requires minimum maintenance, is fun to drive and gets decent mileage. What more can I ask for?

I'd spend $30K and pocket the extra 5.

I was thinking about this post as I sat in my Mo while it is -30C outside and the heated seats on high.

Yes I would but one again in a heart beat and would spend the money you suggested. This car is just too much fun to drive even in this temperature. :2: :2: :2:

A short answer would be yes. A longer response would be a question about needing or wanting something bigger than a sedan? After driving a crossover and a former driver of an SUV, I could not go back to the SUV. I'm used to a car like response with driving and handling that we get with the MO. Not to mention the fuel consumption and styling is also superior to a typical SUV.
If however I did not especially need a ride in this category, I am very partial to the Infinity G-35. If I needed something with larger capacity, I don't really see anything other than the Infinity FX that grabs my attention. Then again the FX is just a slightly more compact rear wheel drive cousin of the MO.

If my Mo was totalled today I'd march right back to my trusty Nissan Dealer and get another one, might change the color, just to keep folks guessing you know ;).

Now if I could justify another $10k I would have to at least go drive the FX again to see if it felt that much better to be back in a rear-driver after getting used to my Mo. But I cant say for sure I wouldn't just keep my loved Mo and get me a $10k toy :).

No idea! I am glad I do not have to choose now.
Last weekend I detailed and drove the FX. I loved it! You know RWD, very good handling, good quality, seats etc.....then on Monday I hoped to the Murano and.........loved it as well! They are so different and so good! Murano is a good car that does everything well. I hate SUV. I would only consider one if I was going really off road. But it would be a Toyota or a Jeep. For normal driving Murano is great. I am however, concerned with CVT. And FWD bothers me as well. But then again when I look around I do not see anything that would seriously challenge Murano....so I would say it depends on your needs and lifestyle. If you get one you will not regret. Myself - I am considering Infiniti M35.....but in 2 years time who knows....just go and get one and enjoy!:D

I would hope not.

Did you guys see how far below average and how far down the list of manufacturers the Customer Satisfaction was for Nissan?
They are one of the worst manufacturers in the world when it comes to Customer satisfaction.
Don't you think we should make Nissan equal say.....Buick?
At this point i would rather find another manufacturer and not reward a company whose dealer network, and National office is so anti consumer.

If you guys keep rewarding the bozos, they will have no incentive to improve.

Of course, if there is nothing out there that can compare with the Murano AT THE PRICE...............

Homer

If Price was no object, the BMW X3 can easily compare with the Murano......And in many ways surpass it. It may be my next CUV and hang the cost. ;)

Homer,
I understand you. But most of the companies service quality dropped dramatically in recent years....

BMW X3 - just configured-one - $41,500! Then add tax etc....expensive....but it is a good car. You have a point.

#11 ·
I really would have to think about it , only because i have nearly reached the point where all modifications are finished and after that what do i do ??? , probably would get another Mo and start all over again , BUT it probably would not take much for me to go for a FX i really love that car tooo , i guess i would go for the FX because there's no way i'm going to get rid of my baby so by getting the FX i'd have the best of both worlds and i'd still be dealing with nissan corp in a way .

Bob,

two problems: FWD and CVT! :(

#15 ·
This is actually a difficult question for me to answer. On one hand, I love my MO, and if I HAVE to have an SUV, this is the one to have.

On the other hand, Nissan service has been treating me like... Well, like most other people on this forum. And that is NOT GOOD. They have pissed me off enough that I really wouldn't want to buy another Nissan.

So, if my MO were to be totalled today (which is entirely possible since Seattle is getting some freakish weather for this area and people here have no idea how to drive <rant> <rant> <rant>) I would have to shop around. I'd look at the FX, the Mazda CX-7, Volvo V70-R (although obviously more expensive), MAYBE do another test drive in the Dodge Magnum.

I believe I like the Murano better than those other vehicles, but I'd have to do some serious thinking to see if it would be better to avoid Nissan service. As for the FX, I'd have to look at the forums of course to see if Infinity service is better than Nissan, but I believe it is (amazing how that is, huh?)

I think I was blown away by the design more than anything else. I agree on the FWD. Don't know about the CVT. Mine has never given me a problem. The Maxima now has the CVT and it may be the future is here with that Tranny. Still too new too pass judgement. The 03-04 MO owners were pioneers and most of the problems seem to be the AWD models and the transfer case. Not too many people have moaned about the FWD-CVT. It also has a 6 speed manual if you choose. I wonder which is standard?

bob1-
I don't think you can get the 6spd in the Max its CVT ONLY- 6 speed is standard in the Altima though.

Back to the thread - yes (if had to do it tomorrow) I still don't think theres anything better out there in this price class.

Infiniti G35 AWD. Would like something a bit more fun to drive than the MO (which despite being one of the more fun to drive crossovers, isn't really a fun to drive vehicle as a whole).

No, I wouldn't buy another Murano.

Things I like:
CVT (really going to miss it)
comfort
looks
gas mileage

Things I don't like:
repair costs
FWD
Nissan

If I really had to stick to the given budget, I would buy a Mazda CX-7. If I could spend a few thousand more, it would be a Cherokee SRT8 (hey, even Jeep customer satisfaction was higher than Nissan's!)

Yeah, I got really friendly with Jeep repair people before I bought the MO. I was there so much that I had my own reserved parking space and personalized coffee cup. :D

Couldn't resist reading and replying, even though I won't be getting my first SUV (CUV) until Christmas.

Over the past month or so, I've road-tested a new Murano SL, a CX-7 GT and a RAV4 V6 Limited. All 3 are very nice and it all boils down to individual priorities. If it's accel from a standing start, it's the RAV4 V6 hands down. If t's the best looker with most features, it's hard to beat the Murano. The way I see it, the CX-7 is the choice if you can't afford a Murano and want another 'looker'.

But I can afford the Murano, so this Christmas I'll be driving a new SL with VDC. Touring Pkg., and Nav. :2:

I noticed that the CX-7 has a pretty pathetic towing capacity (2,000 lbs), which eliminates it from my radar. No point in owning an SUV if it can't tow anything. They ARE coming out with the CX-9, which has the same capacity as the MO (3,500 lbs) but is larger than the CX-7.

By the time I need to trade in the MO, I'm hoping that there are some good CAR options that can tow. Ideally, give me a large low-sulfur (bio)diesel hybrid station wagon with decent towing capacity. Give it 300 horses along with on-the-fly AWD and selectable dynamic suspension. That's the car for me!

(basically I want the Volvo V70-R that is more fuel efficient and is significantly more reliable)

But by the time that's available, I guess I can just ride my flying pig to work instead....

Not that I need to defend the CX-7, but I certainly don't agree with the above comment. While I respect your priority for towing-capacity, I and the great majority of SUV owners will never tow anything, but yet we have other reasons for wanting an SUV which are just as valid as towing.

But as I said before, I happen to prefer the Murano and will soon buy it (although there's little question in my mind that Mazda has a winner in the CX-7).

Cheers,
pv

This is a good example of how auto manufacturers (and the general public) have stretched the term SUV. As you all know SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. Merriam-Webster defines SUV as a rugged automotive vehicle similar to a station wagon but built on a light-truck chassis. How can the CX-7 be considered an SUV if it's "ruggedness" only allows it to tow a paltry 2,000 pounds? If you want to be an SUV then you should be able to tow at least your own weight. The CX-7 can't and neither can the MO. Both are "crossovers", not true SUVs.

ahhh, but according to a short-lived series of commecials (thankfully), according to Nissan's marketing department, we all drive a "Smooth-UV"! It was just too cute for my taste.

I saw an even funnier commercial on TV recently about "Honda trucks." Yes, I said "honda trucks" - they showed the CRV, Pilot, and Ridgeline. The Ridgeline, ok its sort of a truck since it can tow like 5000lbs (I suppose it meets Joe's definition of "towing itself"), but the Pilot isn't any more of a truck than the MO, and the CRV - please! The commercial ended with "visit your Honda truck dealer today for holiday savings..." - I forgot what I was watching but I'm pretty sure I hit the thumbs down button on my tivo. Not that its meant to rate commercials...

I actually get a little flustered whenever I hear someone refer to their MO as a truck. Its really an Altima wagon.
