Rain-X Latitude Wipers

I am ordering a set of Rain-X Latitude wipers from the Rain-X site. They look very impressive in the video and if you order 2 wipers, you get a free visibility pack. They have the wipers for all years of the Murano. I needed a 26" and a 19", and they have a 14" for the rear which I did not order. For 2007 they only have the front wipers, 24" and 19".

I'll report in on how they work.

Maybe I'll get one of these for my rear wiper - the oem Nissan one, which I've replaced three times already, is hopeless. For fronts I use Silblades, which are fantastic (after a year and a half, they work like new - I usually "ruin" normal wipers in less than six months!), but they don't make a silblade for the rear.

Posted this the other day but can't find it:
To replace a rear blade, buy any longer NARROW refill, the kind with the plastic track backing, not the rubber one with the steel rails. Cut it to the right length, pull out the old blade rubber and steel strips, and slide the new one in. It will stay in by itself, and work fine...

Rain-x wipers installed

I received my Rain-x latitude wipers about a week after I sent for them. The install was very simple and took about 10 minutes.
I knew as soon as I turned them on that they were good. I had some streaky dried salt from the last storm on my windshield that the OEM wipers wouldn't clear. Just a quick shot of wiper fluid and the windshield was clean. Make sure when you install new blades that you rest the bladeless arm on a rag or something soft so you don't damage the glass.
Only thing I noticed is that they seem to finish a bit higher on the glass when the wipers are turned off and go to their final resting place. I also see about a 1/4 pie shaped area where the wipers converge that doesn't seem to get hit by the blades. Been so long since I had a clean windshield that maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.
Final analysis, they work and clean 100% better than the originals which I am keeping in storage for when I trade the vehicle in when my lease is up.

did you get the new wipers?

I need new ones for the FX and Murano and was looking the Rain-x Latitude but I need a positive feedback before I buy.

Are you happy with them?

They are fantastic. They mold themselves to the shape of the windshield and took about 10 minutes to install. I treated my windshield with Rain-X and yesterday during a downpour, I hardly had to use my wipers at all except when passing freighters on the turnpike.

When I first put the wipers on, my windshield was dirty and streaky from the last snow and salting. The OEM Nissan wipers wouldn't clean the streaks even after spraying with my washers. Once the Rain-X wipers were on, all it took was one pass.

I highly recommend them!

Thanks for the feedback. I guess is time for me to follow your route....;)

Sure!
Now I just need to make sure the sevice techs at the dealership don't accidentally uninstall the Rain-x's and replace them with OEM's.

I kept my OEM's since I am on a lease and I will swap them out when I turn the car in next year.

I just threw mine in the garbage. Rain-X is making your wipers work, not the blades. Only lasted a couple months, really streaky really quick.
Ok back to Silblades for me. Now those really work - had mine for a year and a half now, still excellent.

Are you still going with the Rain-X latitudes?
I have had mine for about a month and so far I see no streaking.
I used them for a week before I applied the Rain-X treatment.

I suppose time will tell. There are a few negative comments about the wipers in this thread.

Hey guys, just my two cents... Before you go spending uber-bucks on high-end wiper blades, give your windshield a coating or two of Rain-X windshield wax. It really works wonders, especially at highway speeds.

I normally replace wiper blades once a year. However, with the MO I am nearing two years with the original set. Thanx to the unique aerodynamics of the MO, the Rain-X allows the water to blow off the windshield without using wipers, better than cars I have owned in the past. It really makes a difference as I am sure others can attest to.

Give it a try, it's only a few bucks for a bottle.

I am not sure now. I was just about to order two sets when I saw first negative comments.

I think Joe has a point - I used Rain-X wax on my windshield only a few times and it still works great. The FX is 3.5 years old and still has original wipers! And they appear to be OK. I replaced mine 2 years ago and still not real problems. So I am not in a hurry. When I think about it I just might get replacement blades, I mean OEM ones. They worked OK for me so why change?

I've switched from Rain-X to Aqua-Pel. On initial application, the Rain-X is better, but the Aqua-pel lasts MUCH longer consistently whereas the Rain-X quickly degrades.

I haven't tried the Rain-X "WAX" that njjoe mentioned.

Aqua-pel, combined with silblades, is a winning combination for me.

You can also look for a product from 303 that is like a "fresh-wipe" for the wipers. Once your wipers aren't working quite as well, you can wipe them down with these and it helps re-condition them. I wouldn't say it doubles the life of the wiper or anything, but they definitely help when your wipers start streaking or get stiff. I always keep a few on hand and use them to clean the wipers anytime I start seeing problems.

Corin-

I didn't mean to mislead you. I called the Rain-X a "wax" just to differentiate it from the Rain-X wipers the guys were talking about. I am referring to the good 'ole liquid stuff in the yellow bottle.

Sorry for the confusion.

Joe,

do not worry! There was no confusion! We understood you perfectly! ;)

My memo to RainX:

Dear Sirs,

I purchased a set of Latitude wipers from your web site a few weeks back for my 2004 Nissan Murano. In combination with the RainX treatment, I have been completely satisfied thus far with the performance of the blades.
I belong to an on-line forum of Murano enthusiasts. Several of these members have reported dissatisfaction with the Latitude blades and have replaced them with other blades.
I'd like to share some of these comments with you and I am a bit apprehensive that my Latitude blades will perform satisfactorily after a duration of several months.

Here are the comments:

"just threw mine in the garbage. Rain-X is making your wipers work, not the blades. Only lasted a couple months, really streaky really quick"

"I am not sure now. I was just about to order two sets when I saw first negative comments"

Please understand that the members of this forum share information, ideas, technical information, etc. and that if the general consensus is that your product isn't worth the price or is under-performing, you could lose quite a few potential sales here. Show us that you back this product and fully endorse, guarantee and stand behind what you advertise and sell.

Sincerely,
XXXXXXXX

Now, just hold on a minute here. There has only been ONE negative comment posted on this thread about these wipers. Then a couple people jumped on saying "oh, well, then I guess I won't get them."

Only one person that is unsatisfied (so far) does NOT warrant letters to the company complaining, in my opinion.

Why don't you hold off a bit and see how yours do after a couple more months? Let your rain-x coating wear off, then see how the performance is. If you're not pleased at that time, THEN write to Rain-X and see if you can get a refund (most companies like this have a satisfaction guarantee).
