Hey all, ready thru the thread but I am a tire noob...and all the tire shops around here only like to put on OEM numbered tires..

I just got a set of 20" OEM 2009 LE wheels- What is a good tire and size as the OEM size i cant find a tire less than 200$ a pop- yet some similar sizes are alot cheaper- I just do not want any rubbing when I turn- a bit higher and deff wider is good imo- thanks in advance for the help!

EDIT: I needed to read more than page 1 and 2...the post above me answers my question-- sorry!

thanks all

Kumho Ecsta STX in 275/55/18.

I'm looking for a wider tire than OEM GY's. According to the various calculators, this seems to be the closest variation from stock offered with the widest tread. Anyone with advice/experience? Kumho specs show these will fit rim widths including 7.5" (isn't that OEM size?).

Has anyone installed 275/55R18s yet? Im dying to see how they look. I want a wide tire with a slightly smaller aspect ratio so that i can lower it with H&R springs and not rub. Anyone have any advice of pics of this?

I've seen a pic of 275's on the OE 7.5"-wide rim and honestly it looked silly. The tires were ballooning out from the rims like a dune buggy. If you're really trying to go that wide, I suggest you buy wider and taller rims to start, maybe 20" x 8.5". That will also reduce the tire sidewall height. Do some searching though, I'm not sure that size will even fit without rubbing. If you're not planning to swap rims, the widest I'd go is 255.

Thanks. Yeah, my mo is an AWD and while im into lowered, street trucks, i plan to just do a simple lowering on the mo and was thinking of goind with the meaty lower profile look, i guess the "dune buggy" look lol. I get what you mean though, i do kinda want that look of wide tires on a lowered SUV.

I should mention my rims aren't stock, they're OEM Maxima 18x7.5s but they still measure the same as OEM wheels. I do plan on getting some 20s at some point but can't decide on the direction to take and since i need tires soon i might as well get something i want.

Anyway. Im gonna keep trying to search but let me know if you come across a 275/55 or a 275/50 or something you think i'd like. Thanks!

Eek, those are pretty small, 3.1% too small. I wouldn't say it's dangerous, but it's not recommended to deviate that much from OE. If anything, your speedo will be off. Did you buy the MO from a Nissan dealer? Maybe you can work out a deal with them to put on the proper size at a discount. I seriously doubt they will do it for free.

Apart from speedometer inaccuracy, what are the other effects of fixing tires bigger than stock. I am about fixing 265/60R18 in place of the stock 235/65R18 and would like to know what to expect in terms of performance and stability.

I ran 265/60/18 without any issues. The tires are slightly wider and quite a bit heavier, so you'll take a hit in fuel economy, acceleration, and possibly braking distance (although the latter two will likely be imperceptible).

Thanks Eric, this was quite fast. You are ever helpful.

A question concerning size of tires with respect to the width of the rim. If I'm not mistaken, my rims on the 2006 S AWD is 7.5" wide. I was looking at some Kumho Ecsta STX KL12 265-60-18's but it says it's for a rim width of 8". Is there no leeway with this? I would like to have the wider tire surface, but if this can only go on an 8" wide rim, then spose I'll have to find myself that tire in a different size. What's yall's oppinions?

Tirerack lists the specs of the tires when mounted on an 8" wide rim. But it also lists the range of rim widths acceptable to mount the tire on. 7.5" would be fine, it just would not sit exactly the same way on a thinner rim, but it would not be unsafe.

By law, every tire size is associated with a standard rim width. When manufacturers test their tires for UTQG ratings and such, it needs to be mounted on that specific rim size to help consumers compare apples to apples. Not sure why TireRack doesn't list the width range, but it's on Kumho's site; 7.5-9.5". So you're good. But stay within that range; Anything outside that could be dangerous, so many tire shops won't even mount them for safety/liability reasons.

Thanks, I preciate it Eric and Patrick. I know Wal-Mart will not mount tires that are not OEM sized to that vehicle. So I'd have to put my vehicle up on blocks (yeah, ghetto, I know) and have a friend take me in to drop the tires off to get the new ones mounted in order to bypass that rule of theirs. I also found General Tire Grabber UHP 255/60-18's General Grabber UHP that looked good, but would likely get me in some trouble next winter.

Need Help

Dear All ,

I have a nissan murano 2006 and i recently installed 20x9 wheels with 275/45/R20 tires i really like them .. the problem is the handling now is tooooooo bad i don't know why .. i did balance the wheels , added hub rings but i still feel a vibration in the steering at different speeds

Snow Tires???

I'm a new used 2009 Nissan Murano LE owner.
I'm looking at purchasing Winter tires and wondered if the following would work:
255/55R18 Himalaya snow tires on 18 X 7.5 rims with 5 X 4.5 or 114.3 mm. bolt pattern.

I don't know the first thing about tires - that's why I'm here. :)

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

It may not be a good idea to use wider tires for winter one.
Just my thought.

Does a certain tire make it a bit harder to drive on the curvy road or it's just the vehicle that make it harder to drive on the curvy road?

I'm still trying to adjust how to drive properly with the Murano, but always end up having to slow down a lot more than the other vehicle I've driven.

I swapped the OEM Bridgestone tires for Michelin Premier LXT 255/55R/20V tires at 3,100 miles. Big difference in ride and handling, although you have to remember, the Murano is not a sports car and a bit top heavy when cornering. I have a lot of local back roads with hills and curves that I like to run, so I know how you feel.

Have a good day.
