Fantastic writeup. It will sure to come handy (and drive the price of HID lights up!) for those who want to do the conversion. I can't believe I did not buy a complete set from e-bay when it was available for $300.....:3:

For those who are interested, check here and here

Be aware that these do not have their main light bulbs which are expensive!

I confirmed what MO IN TO wrote...

It will work!
DOnt hesitate to do the conversion...
Once you do the hid conversion, you never go back to halogen, I promise :D

Xcelent write up MO IN TO!

I am glad this is appreciated, as it took quite a while to plan it and post it. My Murano will turn over 100,000 km in the next day or two, and I wanted to give back to the forum for what I have gained. Pics of my odometer to follow!

zebelkhan (and others) - FYI, the HID's you link to on Ebay are two extras I had for sale, but are now sold.

PS - check these closed auctions for ideas on valuations
deal on a pair
this one had only one bidder
this one closed this week
halogen auction
higher priced unit
another higher priced unit

Good for you! I wanted to bid on the lights you purchased (especially the one that did not come up with a HID search and was for sale a few months ago) but I was too cheap to do even that! My loss....

The lights you are selling are worth the asking price to the right buyer. That is why I linked them here just in case someone was interested.

Again, thank you for the write-up. I will definitely use it when I do the mod. I just have to come up with an excuse to convince the wife that this is a must have. When I wanted the nerf bars, I told her that they would prevent dents on the doors….and she bought it….:2:

My Excuse.....

Hey z - I used the argument to myself that as I age (mid forties), my eyesight is deteriorating, and any added advantage of superior night vision would be additional safety in my pocket.

I like that one!

Great work!

One thing I noticed... You haven't installed the aiming switch. Is this something you've considered? It's quite likely the wiring is there, as it comes out of the same connector on pins 3 and 6.

And the connector for the aiming switch in the dash, is taped up inside. Pull off the cover, look up and you'll see the pair of them. Give it a tug to break the tape and there it is, ready to have the switch plugged in...

Hmmm..... Looking at this, I'm thinking you could wire up a variable resistor, instead of the OEM switch and have a finer adjustment resolution than the OEM switch.... Find a nice knob and you could just drill a hole for it and mount it without coughing up the dough for the OEM switch and cover.

Something around 750 ohms would do it, or even a 1K ohm pot would work nicely. Logarithmic taper of course!

Why would you want a log taper?
Looks like a classic place you would want a linear taper.

Maybe you're right Homer... I just glanced at it and saw each position more than doubled the last position's value an figured a Linear taper would suck as it would all be at one end. A Log might be too much the other way. It's been years since I've looked at the curve.

Do ya happen to remember? That's a lot easier than me looking it up again.;)

Gee, I looked and saw 750 on one end and 1 ohm (I don't believe that) on the other and some steps in between.
You may be right.

It's just that when I think of Log pots I think of audio.........1 DB steps for instance........and that has nothing to do with positioning a light source.
Most step motors are linear by nature.

As to the one ohm resistor shown..........
If it takes 120 ohms to make a real difference.......then I have to believe that the 1 ohm is a straight wire, or 0 ohms.
! ohm resistors just add to cost and in this case I don't see it doing anything.
I know that I wouldn't put a 1 ohm resistor in there unless I was using it as a fuse.......and that is generally a very bad idea as resistors tend to smoke and sometimes flame when overloaded......

Bottom line, I remove my objection, you may be right, I just don't know the exact electrical characteristics of Log Pots. I just know the audio results.........

I don't think I will really need that as my loads are fairly consistent (hand tools, some inventory and test equipment). I will be having my headlights aimed at the dealer as soon as my rims arrive from LA. I may ask them to look up the factory parts. I assume if the leads exist, and the motors are already on the housings (small motors behind each white plastic screw), it may just be plug and play (plus mount the switch) at the dashboard then?

If it is this simple and not too many $$$, I may consider it..........

MO in TO, I think you are right.
I have the OEM HIDS and after the original adjustment, I have never adjusted the lights again.
I suppose if I occasionally towed a boat...........

I have a co-worker who has a 2003 SE. She is getting tired of little things that are happening to her MO (a few weeks ago her alternator failed and now she has the gas cap lock problem) so she is thinking about trading it in for a Ford.....:3:

I am trying to convince her to let me swap the headlights with mine before trading it in. I know I will have no issues with installing the HIDs on mine, but will the Halogoen ones work on hers? - Does anyone know?

Only way to find out would be to try it. Since no SE comes with halogens, you know from the start the wiring will be slightly different.

Also it will affect trade in value.
