Car just shut off
I was driving and car just shut off. I went to restart it and no power anywhere.I waited a minute and it started up so I went to drive and it barely drove, I barely could move. Pushing gas did nothing it rolled enough to get me home I was a block away. I called advanced and told them what was going on and they said it's probably the alternator. Any advice? It is an 05 sl murano. I called Nissan and service isn't open till Monday and today is Saturday. I'm screwed with no idea. Please help!!!

Was the battery/charging warning light lit on the dash? When the alternator goes south, that warning light as well as the brake warning light comes on.

Have you had your 05 since it was new? If so, did you buy it in early 05 and did you ever have the alternator replaced under the recall?

I stopped the car, put it in park and it just shut off instantly with no lights and no power or anything. I waited 5 min and it started and I drove real slow around the block home. As I was driving when I pushed on gas it wouldn't accelerate it kind of slowed down when I hit the gas. It felt like the electrical wasn't getting enough power. I got home, parked it and turned the key off. I went to start it back up and nothing again. I put it on charger and turned key and it started this morning. Charger showed battery didn't charge a lick. I bought the car with 89,000 miles on it. This never happened before the only time it ran funny was when intake hose came off. Not sure if alternator was replaced. Never experienced a car loosing all power like that

Simplest thing to do is to check the battery posts for good connectivity. Some first generation Muranos had a problem with their ground connection under the dash. If you lost all power, my guess is a loose connection which cuts the power to BCM and shuts the engine down. But first check the battery connections. It could be as simple as that.

I don't think battery is the problem. If you wanna eliminate the alternator, turn on everything electrical while the engine is running ac,radio, headlights, etc. If the lights starts to flactuate real bad or the radio disappears then the alternator is not giving enough juice, otherwise its not it.

Sounds like the car goes to limp mode could it be due to cvt related issues? How is your cvt fluid level? Maybe the throttle positioning sensor?

This sounds exactly like what it is. You don't go from full power to zero power without a bad battery connection. Check the terminals, then the cables. I bet one of them will be obviously loose.

Any chance it is the Camshaft Position Sensors? Was the SES light on? Or was this completely out of the blue? I have a fault code (P0340) for one of my CPS sensors on my 03 and from what I have been reading, when they fail, it can be pretty catastrophic- car shutting of while driving, dead steering, dead pedals, etc. Starts off with difficult starts, poor performance sluggish feel and maybe odd lights found left on. I came back from vacation a few weeks ago and I thought my steering seemed very stiff and sluggish. I chalked it up to driving a rental car for a week, but now I am starting to think it may be the beginning stages of the sensor failing. Then again, this is all hearsay. I am taking my car in tomorrow. At least I am armed with a bit of information, so we will see what they try to charge me. I see I can get both sensors for about $130. If they try for something outrageous, I will probably order them and replace them both myself. Why not, the car is so far out of warranty at this point.

This are preliminaries to an eminent battery failure.
I has this symptoms exactly 1 week before I had to replaced my battery.
Now its all good after a new battery and a SES reset.

Then again it might also be your alternator. So check and eliminate that first.......

Mine died today while on my way to work all the dash lights were on, managed to get it off the road from main traffic. Tried to ignite it, engine came on but died in a few seconds. Waited for like 10 mins then the mo was back on and i managed almost 5kms to work.......:( i just got the mo a month ago with about 48,000kms on it.

For a vehicle to die completely on the road is rather unusual. You either ran out of gas, or ran out of electricity (check for a loose battery terminal). Also check for a loose air intake duct (often the accordion rubber part has a loose hose clamp).

IM IN THE SAME SITUATION .
HELLO- HELLO, Im reading a few posts about Murano shutting off randomly . Has anyone had luck pinpointing the exact issue? Im desperate at this point. Wifey afraid to drive it as it may or may not shut off while she is commuting. Our 2007 Murano is doing the random engine shut off also. When i pull over put the gear selector in P and attempt to start it cranks very strong but takes several tries to fire up. Taking to another shop for diagnose while paying their hourly rate is making life difficult. ANY ASSISTANCE FROM THIS 6 MONTH OLD THREAD WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED ! If its easier to respond by email- here it is... generaljoe67@gmail.com

Big DZ
You are my only hope have you fixed your issue with the Murano, I have the same exact issue and no one understand me...

OK, time for a post on how to check a battery. If you don't have a multimeter, get one. It's handy around the house for checking batteries and outlets, too.
