Just curious to see responses to this question:
If you had to replace your Murano tomorrow, had no more
than $35k to spend, would you buy another or something else?
and why?

Yeah, I chuckle at the Honda truck commercial also.

Change of Subject...I saw pics of the new Altima Coupe they are to bring out next year...wow! Going to give the G-series and even the Z350 a good run for the money

As Bob already observed: With FWD and CVT? -- Not likely!
Oh I'm pretty sure you can get a 6-spd with the Altima coupe as well. While I doubt the Altima will be a razor sharp FWD handler, don't be so quick to dismiss FWD - both the GTI and Civic Si are FWD and have great handling.

Getting back to the Murano, as I mentioned earliier, I will soon be buying a new SL with VDC, Touring Pkg, and Nav.

I noticed that some of you have now had your Murano beyond its factory bumper-bumper warranty, so I was wondering if I should opt for a 7-year/70K mile Extended Warranty (I average about 10K miles/year).

My Nissan salesman (who seems like a decent guy) is asking about $1700 for it and says that based on his experience with Murano's since they've been out, it will more than pay for itself.

So what do you guys think? :29: :28:

Personally I think that the salesman is just telling you that so that you will buythe extended warranty. The decision so be based on how long you are keeping your Mo. At 10K /year and you are only going to keep your car 4-5years, I do not think that it is worth it.

Good point - but based on my past cars, chances are I'll keep it for at least 7 years unless my Mo turns out to be a lemon!

I absolutely love this tactic. Here you have a Nissan salesman, an employee of Nissan and the representative of their products, and he is telling you that you can expect to pay at least $1,700 in out-of-pocket money for repairs on this brand new car over the next 7 years/70,000 miles. Does anyone else find this odd? Shouldn't he be telling you how great the car is? How reliable it is? How cost of ownership is low? No, this "decent guy" is trying to sell you another profit-making accessory. This insurance isn't for you, it is for him. He is not concerned with protecting your investment, he is concerned with making a few extra bucks.

You may be right, but in all fairness this is the way he presented it to me... He said "the Mo, especially with the options I want, is full of complicated electronics and any car with all of that high-technology is bound to have its failures"

....I've never owned any Nissan, so I don't have any 1st hand experience with them ....that's why I'm asking you guys with a 'Mo history' to steer me in the right direction on this!

Regards, pv

if i had to trade the murano in for something tommorow it would most likely be the lexus IS350 fully loaded. sure i'd be losing a ton of space but that would be overcome by the huge smile on my face
( the same one that i had when the MO used to be unique)

If I had to choose, tomorrow?

At 35K, I would be in a dilemma. We sold our 03 se awd a couple of months ago, and as I have said before, we had a good one with 61K on it.
However, our needs would be a bit different this time around. We still need awd for our hill. The handling of our MO deteriorated rather quickly, by about 5-10 K, I guess due to the cheap suspension components and the rough road we live on. In comparison, our 03 Civic Si still is taught after 70K.
The new SE or SL awd would be interesting, however I would have to have
some upgraded shocks, tires and a lowering kit. Don't know if we could do it for 35K tops.
I like the Suby Legacy GT wagon from it's specs. and test reports. Fast, better than average handling, and well under 35K. Only issue is: like the Nissan shops, Dealer attn. to customer issues is spotty. Our regional shop is an abomination! :( Darrell.

I love my Mo.

Recently the wifey was in love with a Hyundai Tuscon and she bought it. For 19k I was shocked how nice it is. Very quiet. More than the Mo. Every possible thing the Mo could have sans the CVT and the nice color display, for 19k.

BUT

The V6 is kinda lacking in powering up hills without downshifting; the Mo cruises up the same hills with very little effort.
The auto in the Tuscon with its shift lag: The Mo just buttery smoothly gets up to speed without making her engine rev at all.
The Tuscon's mileage is not as good as the Mo, mainly again due to the CVT.
The ride. Tuscon is a lot bouncy over dips and humps and bumps: the Mo is again buttery smooth in the same places, it is a joy to drive on the freeway as it is bumping around in the burbs.

I'd have to say that I'd have to get another Mo and sell the Tuscon so the wifey could have as nice a car as mine. I won't tell her but--the Tuscon is butt freakin ugly compared to the Mo.
hahaha

wow! What a change of opinion! Or rather attitude towards the Hyundai...I guess in general you get what you pay for.....just keep her happy....my decided to keep FX "indefinitely"....what ever it means....

After being in the market for nearly 4 years, and me owning one for nearly three years, I still get the "wow....this is a nice car..." comment. And I love the room, the performance, and its looks better than any other car or suv in its class....So, I guess I would buy another MO. Let's hope by then they get rid of the rattles and squeaks.....:)

Well............

I really don't want ANy down time at the dealer.

I've never had rattle, squeak, or ANYTHING wrong with the Phaeton.

BUT given you $ limit.

I think I would rent until the new model Mo comes out and study it.

Even then I might wait a year for debugging.

All this is IMO and said loving the MO and loving no worries.

hmmm... would i get another MO..... based on what experience i had with Mo (this being my first car) and how much i have cared for my Mo.... yes, instantly. without a doubt. wifey saw a car show the other day and was explaining me how great the new Hyundai Santa Fe is ..... and i do agree with her.... Hyundai's are very nice vehicles..... BUT... they are not Muranos.

i have ordered my new Merlot 07 SE murano so it comes equipped with everything (in Canada) except navigation and entertainment..... which i really dont care about since i have my ipaq navi. and a light IBM laptop to put in rear seat for the baby....

apparently, there is not Merlot available in Canada so it has to be shipped in from Japan. so i am keeping my fingers crossed, may be the SANTA will bring it a bit faster and i could drive in my MO on christmas.....

Love to live with Mo ~~

Merlot with Cafe Latte interior - that's the color combo I'm getting on my '07 SL. Apparently, there are very few SE's in So Cal. I wanted to evaluate the difference between it and the SL but couldn't find an SE to drive!

Merlot with Black Leather interior.... i dont like light interiors especially here in Saskatoon where there is either snow or rain.... and dirty shoes really drive me crazy !!

Most agree here that the SE handles a little better (sharper steering, flatter cornering) at the expense of a firm ride (some have called it harsh, I find its ok).

PS. While the Sta Fe is a very good value, imho it's interior is not nearly as nice as the Mo. (if only the Mo had the Sta Fe's warranty)!
SE has more sports tuned suspension. according to Nissan Canada's website here is what SE has as standard and SL doesnt.
Sport-tuned suspension — firmer springs and firmer struts/shock absorbers

thats the only difference in the driving. mind you SL and SE are only cosmetically different.... they got same brain power and same soul..... its the leather, power passenger seat and other bling blings that makes it pricier !!

congrats hasaanbhutta on the purchase. i concur with you on the light colored interiors. they are a pain in the butt to take care of(especially staining the seats with your jeans) but they do look classy.

anyways i'm lost now because there are so many Mo imitators ... and the fact that my mo in particular comming on with a problem dosn't make things any better.

Well my wife likes the Cafe Latte interior (and that's her dept)! Besides, it does go better with the cargo area which is tan regarless of whether you opt for Charcoal or Cafe Latte.

Btw, if you are looking at a 'Mo substitute' you might want to check out the Mazda CX-7. I test-drove it and was very impressed with its performance/handling, but my wife didn't think it was quite up to the Mo's luxury!

i've looked at it also but it's way to small for a family of 4(with 2 kids over 15, haha i'm one of them) and the luxury is just not there. we do have a mazda 3 though and that's a wonderful little car. maybe the cx9 will be a winner.

Well, the back seat works quite well with teenagers if you didn't have to much luggage to haul at the same time! Anyhow, I just mentioned it because like the Mo it is a 'looker' and one sweet handling CUV!
