Squeaky Brakes

Anyone else having problems with their brakes squeaking? Mine has been doing it for awhile every time I pull out of the garage in the morning. Read the same thing on freshalloy.com but nobody seems to have heard about any fix on this.

I bought my 06 SL Touring Package on 9/3/06, three months and 2300 miles later, I still have the squeak. I figured it was just new brakes that needed to be worn in -- like a stiff new shoe or jeans out of the wash. My brakes squeak just like all the other posts -- only in reverse, only in the morning or when its cold and been sitting.

I don't think it's right to have to put up with the noise for a car that's priced over $30k.

...Cold, morning, reverse, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! It IS embarrassing. The squeel could not possibly be louder. The entire neighborhood knows that I'm leaving for work, church (Sunday's are the worst...folks are still sleeping).
I now live in an apartment complex. I have been coming home rather late recently (past midnight) and after I get home, even after having driven 5 miles from work, the brakes squeal when i put it in reverse to get inside the garage....

You don't know the meaning of embarassed until you hear a loud "fix that f...er up" from one of your neighbors at 1 am in the quite of the neighborhood.....

Well...Well...Well...the noise has returned. Replacing the rotors did not work...My car seems to be running 500/600 miles before the squeaky rat returns.
I called Nissan to give them the opportunity to correct this is by either:
1. replacing my car with a different car.
2. refunding my money and them taking possesion of the car.

This was of course after they told me that there is NOT a FIX for the problem. They asked if my car could be used as an experiment to see if their test shim kit would work...I said nope, I am not a test dummy....
Nissan responed to my request by saying that they are not in the business of refunding money or taking the car back.
Also the service man at our dealership informed me that I can't take my car back in because he has no fix for it...
I am filing a complaint with the BBB and also filing a lemon report.
I have rights and I am going to utilize them...

I too am filing a BBB Lemon Law claim. The squeal started two days after I took ownership. Originally they said it was brake dust when I called in. That didnt sit well so I made an appt for them to look at it. They turned the rotors, and squeal returned in two days.

I called for them to repair it, they refuse to take it in saying they have no fix that is a sure thing. I called Nissan corporate to make a complaint. After a week, they said there is no fix. I asked for a fix or my money back, they said file a complaint at the BBB. I did.

The service rep even lied to me, saying there was a TSB saying not to do anything for this squeal, that they are working on it. How pathetic is that, working on it since 2003. If I had known about this, I wouldnt have bought the vehicle. If this is how they handle brakes, what about the rest of the vehicle?

I really like the ride, the interior (except the worlds worst "premium stereo").

I would never have let them turn the rotors, and if had my choice I'd make them put on new ones to bring them back to normal.

Still, pathetic that they cant fix a brake squeal that has been going on for years.

There was an article on the AOL welcome screen a couple weeks ago on the Top 10 auto companies based on customer loyalty. I don't have the link to it. Nissan wasn't in the Top 10 - surprisingly to me, with everyone not wanting to buy American cars and the fact that I can't name 10 off the top of my head :) . I remember the article saying that it's cheaper to keep existing customers than to bring new ones in.

I believe Nissan produces some very good vehicles. However, this seems to be a recurring theme with people's experiences with Nissan Service Depts when an issue does arise. I have also had a bad experience with the brakes and the dealer. I love Nissans, but unfortunately I will never own another one.

I cannot believe that the dealer is unable to solve this simple problem.....who do they employ - monkies? And I do know - Nissan customer service stinks....

Nelson,
to keep current customer is approximately 3 - 5 time cheaper than gain a new one....

yeah, doubt I'd ever buy another one.

had lots of problems with my VW Beetle, but as the service dept was terrible, wouldnt buy any brand that dealership carried
My sympathy to you as I know how you feel. I had an OLDS that was a garbage scowl on wheels. What a piece of junk. The tranny quit you guessed it at 12500 miles in the day of a 12000 mile warranty. I turned on the window defrost in an ice condition and a pop sound occurred. There was a 1/8 inch crack across the entire windshield. It did a shake rattle and roll when driving it. I swore I'd never buy another Olds and kept my word on that. They pissed me off for life.
However my Murano brake noise went away by itself (eventually). I would never have any such luck with the Oldsmobile.

They told me the same thing. My sister bought one and she was told at the time she first brought it in, that there is not a fix.
They told me that they were working on it as well. WELL! I am going to file and suggest others to do the same thing...If enough complaints come through in regards to the same problem, they are bound to get off their behinds and do something to really fix this issue...
The Lemon Law claim in my state is 2 years/24 thousand miles for the same problem under warrenty for 4 times...OR 2 times for the same problem and the judge can rule that it is a safety issue...Then Nissan has to comply....
THey are also NOT a member of the BBB, and they don't have to respond if they don't want to...But at least the complaint will be there..
I am also thinking about clicking the link at the bottom of the BBB website because they provide our local news stations investigator information....

Here in Florida, there is mediation, and the complaint goes to BBB as well as the State Attorney General.

wish me luck.

I am not wildly enthusiastic on your chances.
"Use, value, safety."
That's what the FL lemon law is all about.
There is nothing about squealing brakes that would compromise Use of same.....or Safety.
So, your only chance IMO is value.
You will need to keep hitting them, saying that the squeal detracts from the vehicles value.

And one other thing, you don't get a chance to direct the repair.
If they say they want to turn the rotors, and you say no, then they have every right to escort you off the property.

So, be reasonable, base your case on supposed lost value, and good luck.

Its my opinion that it certainly does detract and lower the value.

They already turned the rotors once. We all know that doesnt work for this. So if they turn them again, it still wont work. They refused twice to repair it after they turned the rotors and that didnt work.

I like a lot of things about my Murano, but the loud squeal of the brakes in the morning is absolutely embarrasing..

My question is this... we have 56K on our MO, and we've had the squeak for a while now. Obviously it's not under warranty anymore, and a TSB is not the same as a recall, so can I assume that I'm gonna be spending some $$ to get them to "fix" this?

The car is coming off lease in September, so I'm hesitant to shell out a bunch of cash to fix it.

Thanks...

Depends how nice your dealer is. You are correct in that TSBs are not recalls - i.e. they are just updated service procedures. If you can get them performed under warranty, then its free, but out of warranty, all the TSB serves as is peace of mind that the fix will probably work.

At 56k, you might be due for a front brake job anyways.

Well, Nissan got my lemon law complaint. Now there is newfound interest in my problem. They are getting a "Technical Specialist" to look at it. They have ten days to fix it then, and if they fix it and it still is a problem, guess its buy it back time for them.

I really do like the Murano. They looks, ride, seats, etc. I have been getting decent mileage. The stereo sucks, but I was going to fix that.

Wish me luck

03 with Squeaky brakes

Just purchased a 2003 Murano with 35,000 miles on it. Few days later the brakes are squaking like everyone elses when backing up only. I know there is a TSB for this and was wondering since I have a 2003 and the original warranty was 3/36 will the dealership do the repair or should I expect a hassle?

Thanks - other than this we are loving the 2003 Murano.

Buried in this thread is my experience. I did the TSB, it was gone for a day and back again. The noise is gone now except for a couple of times that I heard it ever so faintly. Very frustrating for you now but it should go away by itself. Thought by now at 35K it should be gone. If you can get them to do a TSB, great, I'd go for it as you get new pads. My guess is they will pull the more than 3 year rule and warranty is gone.
Good luck.
