Guys, I need some help, I just joined this site in need for some suggestion. I was looking at the 4Runner, everything looks good except the gas mileage. So now I'm looking into the Murano; I don't ask for much, but realiablity. Would you guys recommend it? Do you guys experienced any major defects, problems, recalls? Is there a year of Murano that I shoud avoid?

THanks for the help.

2003-2004 Muranos had an alternator recall - you should make sure any used model you look at had that done. Also, check for leaking transfer/transmission seals, as these can lead to those components failing down the line.

I wish there was a way to get that demographic, but I have never seen a breakout of the various options.
I have a funny feeling the VDC was not too popular.
I wanted it.

It cost $750 and was on all the tester models that I saw initially, but I don't remember too many people here with it. I know that you had to also buy some packages to get it.
I beleive that you had to buy the SL premium package to get it, I did, but I wasn't going to wait for an "ordered" car. Nothing in stock had it when I bought.

With the SE you had to buy the ......."Popular" package I think. That was quite expensive..........$3k? and then you had to buy the VDC for $750.

I'm glad that they have made it standard now.

does anyone know how common the VDC option was? im having trouble finding one with it.
Ophit-

Like Homer indicated, the VDC option was not that popular. On the 2005 models it was part of the "Dynamic Control Package", which required the "Touring Package", which required the "Leather and Sunroof Package", which required the "Premium Package". So you basically needed a fully-optioned-out MO before you could even consider getting VDC.

I know it is not a scientific survey, but I did a search on eBay Motors for Nissan Muranos, and found 42 MOs up for bid. When I narrowed the search by including VDC I got back zero cars. There just aren't that many VDC-equipped MOs out there. Keep looking, you may get lucky.

I can sell you mine. 2003 Murano. Mechanically - best car out there! Well maintained. Unfortunately i do not have VDC. I wanted this option but it was hard to find. So I settled for "winter package" I did not need. But I did get all the other options I wanted...

If you want 03 with particular options it will be hard to find. I would advise go for best deal is there. You will not regret...

thanks for all the info! the window sticker is very helpful.

kris, your sounds perfect except i dont want gold. :(

ive got a couple of months before the baby is born and will keep looking for the (apparently rare) VDC option for a little longer. the similar system in my rx-8 has saved my ass a number of times.

I do notknow where do you live but VDC is one feature that every CUV, SUV should have. Good luck in your search....

I agree, if you want VDC, do not settle for one without it. The system seriously works, and has probably saved my bacon a few times in the MO.

oh, i live in the bay area, california. no snow. but i am a racer, so what is a normal drive for me can turn exciting if there is a patch of wet leaves or oil on the road. stability control can do things i cant do even as an expert driver- like apply a single rear brake to tighten the line.

looking forward to getting my murano!

HI

According to my new brochure about the Nissan Rogue(smaller
version of the Murano), it has VDC standard on the S and SL model.
It also has steering wheel mounted paddle shifters....according to the book, it gets 27 mpg, over 400 miles in the tank.

I'm still considering getting this. The base price for a 2008 FWD
Rogue, 2.5 4cyl SL CVT is $20,670.00. The 2007 Murano SL V6 FWD is 29,380. Lot less and brand new. I, myself don't care about the paddle shifters cause we don't do that much driving on hilly terrain to use them. ... but, if you are into racing, you might. It says Formula One drivers have used them for years.

Good Luck with the new baby and Congrats.

Recent reviews of the Rogue show it does get better mileage than a Murano (obviously) but not quite 27mpg - it is more like 21-23mpg overall, which is still much better than a Murano.

I guess it is even more exciting for those unfortunate enough to have to share the road with you. :awais:

Google is your friend.

Ophitoxaemia is the rather exotic term that characterizes the clinical spectrum of snake bite envenomation.

And with the picture of the Cobra, we have lift off!

I bought my Murano in May, and I'm averaging 21.5 over that entire time. And I'm not basing that on the MO on-board screen - that's actual calculated mileage.
